US President Donald Trump signed an executive order yesterday, to fast track the reclassification of cannabis, which would pave the way for the food and drug administration to study its medicinal uses.

NBC news reported that Cannabis is classified in the same category as Heroin, Ecstasy and ISD, under the controlled substances act of 1970.

Some of that support will come through the newly established fund for responding to loss and damage.

The fund supports recovery from climate-related impacts, including extreme weather and rising sea levels, through solutions tailored to country-specific needs and priorities.

Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change Matthew Samuda says Jamaica will be transparent with the public, as it prepares to submit projects to the United Nations' newly operationalised Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD). 

The fund is a UN backed climate finance mechanism designed to help developing countries respond to unavoidable climate related losses.

President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), Metry Seaga has underscored that the 7% increase in Jamaica Public Service bills will not have any major effect. Seaga noted that the increase is based on fuel costs as well as stipulations in the current JPS license agreement.
