The Southern Regional Health Authority, (SRHA) has implemented contingency measures, at facilities that are being overwhelmed with patients, since the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Regional Director Michael Bent acknowledged the frustration of persons seeking medical care at hospitals and health centres, especially with the long wait time.

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it is investigating an incident in which a student fell from one of its school buses operated along the Buff Bay to Highgate Route in St. Mary. The incident reportedly occurred on December 1.

The Ministry of Health says it provided psychosocial support to over 3400 citizens, as well as over 500 health care workers, in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. 

This was to help them cope with the emotional trauma, grief, anxiety, and stress caused by the hurricane.
