President of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), Mark Malabver has raised concern about the situation at schools, which are still being used to house shelterees following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

Mr. Malabver highlighted schools in western parishes which suffered the brunt of damage when the Category 5 hurricane made landfall in October last year.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has thanked the Caribbean Community, (Caricom) for assisting Jamaica with Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts, noting that the devastating category 5 system caused some US$10 billion in damage.

Sashalee Williams who was killed alongside her boyfriend in a crash along Queens Highway in Discovery Bay, St. Ann on December 11, 2025 has been laid to rest.

The 29-year-old medical professional and her boyfriend Dale Williams both of Duncans, Trelawny died after the motor car they were travelling in collided with a Hiace motor vehicle.
