Jason Cook, former pastor of Iron City Church, returns this week to share from Matthew's account of Jesus's arrival in Jerusalem.  Through His choice to ride on a lowly donkey, His confrontation with money-lenders in the Temple, and His rebuke of the fruitless fig tree, Jesus puts to death empty religious practices.  Instead, He challenges us to have faith that can move mountains and to trust in the power of His word, the same force which brought life to the world.

As we welcome new deacons and elders to the leadership of Iron City, Kam preaches on Paul's guidelines for these specific roles. These qualifications, though, are not just for our leaders.  The text inspires us all to cultivate exemplary lives of service and spiritual care.

Gavin King preaches again at Iron City this week from 1 Peter 1:18-21. This passage summarizes the fundamental joy of redemption, the culmination of God's plan for humanity. Here, Peter makes clear that through Christ we have been given freedom, meaning, and immeasurable worth.

Kam continues our look at Genesis this week with the fall of man. We live in a broken world because we believed the lie that God was withholding good things from us, and this unbelief is a struggle we continue to share. But as this sermon series strives to show, scripture takes us from a garden where everything went wrong to a city where everything will be made right.

To begin this new year, Kam starts a new sermon series at the beginning of the Bible. Over the next month, we will survey the fundamental story of scripture from Genesis to Revelation. In the passages covered this week, we see the creation of the world and the goodness of the garden, man being made in the image of God and given dominion over the earth.  The only thing bad was that man was alone, which reminds us all today that God designed us to live in community with one another.

In reviewing the year 2019, Michael Andrzejewski, a member of Iron City Church, reminds us of the importance of rest.  Though we may not always know why we are physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually in a certain place, Jesus's encounter with His disciples on the sea during a storm shows us that God will always place us where we need to be.  As we look to the coming new year, our call is to follow and not to fear where the Lord may lead us.

To conclude this season of Advent, we examine Simeon’s encounter with Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. God’s promise to Simeon is fulfilled through the opportunity to meet the Messiah, this story reminding us that the Lord is faithful and His promises are sure. Our days of waiting will end, for the light of the world has come.

Kam turns our attention this week to good news.  Luke 2:1-20 tells not only of the good news of Jesus's birth but also that the first to receive this news was a group of common shepherds.  Through this act, we see that the Lord values the weak and lowly to share in what is high and mighty.

In our Advent series this week, we see that God can do impossible things.  Ben Crocker discusses the miraculous conception of Jesus, Mary's visit to Elizabeth, and Mary's song of praise.  Together, these scenes act as signposts of hope for us that God works in the ordinary to bring us into His presence and use us for His glory.
