    Summary
    Gen 37-39
Summary:   Gen 37 Joseph reveals a dream to his brothers and as a result, his brothers become bitter towards him and plots a scheme to kill him. Instead of killing him, they sell him into slavery to a caravan of traders headed to Egypt. Once in Egypt, Joseph becomes the servant of Potiphar, who was an officer of Pharaoh.
Gen 38:   Judah moves away from his family and marries a Canaanite woman, Shuah.   He has three sons Er, Onan and Shelah. Er marries Tamar but soon dies because he was wicked before God.  Onan was given to Tamar in order to raise up seeds for his brother but was also killed by God for wickedness.  Being that the youngest son Shelah was never given to her, she devised her own plan. She disguised herself as a prostitute, led Judah to lay with her and conceived.
Gen 39:  While in Egypt the Lord was with Joseph.  He became the overseers for Potiphar entire household and God blessed him in everything that he did.  Potiphar’s wife took notice of Joseph and tried to lay with him but Joseph refused because of his commitment to God.  She falsely accused him of approaching her and had him thrown in jail by Potiphar.  While In prison, God continued to show Joseph favor and he was placed in charge of all of those in prison. For God prospered whatever Joseph put his hands to do.

    Bible summary Day 8
Genesis chapter 25 is telling us about the last Days of Abraham. After the birth of his sons, he sets his house in order with prudence and justice and he did this while he yet lived. It is wisdom for men to do while they live as far as they can. Let us not close the history of Abraham without blessing God for such a testimony of the triumph of faith.
Genesis chapter 26 is telling us that the real worth of God’s promises can not be lessened to a believer that may befall him if God engage to be with us and we are where he would have us to be, nothing but our own unbelief and distrust can prevent our comfort. The obedience of Abraham to the divine command was evidence of that faith whereby as a sinner, he was justified before God and the effect of that love whereby true faith works. God testifies that he approved this obedience to encourage others especially Isaac.

  • Ria Reads Genesis 22-24
Abraham is asked by God to offer up Isaac, the son of promise, as a sacrifice. He responds in obedience, taking Isaac and trusting that God would provide the lamb in place of Isaac. When they get to the location, the altar is built and Isaac is tied and laid on the altar. But as Abraham is about to slay Isaac, an angel of the Lord calls from heaven and stops him. He is then shown a ram to offer in place of Isaac.
Following this, Rebekah who would later become Isaac’s wife, is brought into the narrative with the genealogy of Nahor, Abraham’s brother. This is followed by the death of Sarah at 127 years and her burial in the field of Machpelah, which Abraham had negotiated and purchased from Ephron.
Finally, our section today closes with the journey of Abraham’s servant to find a wife for Isaac from among Abraham’s family. The servant prays to the LORD God for favour in finding a wife and his prayer is answered in Rebekah. Rebekah agrees to marry Isaac and goes back with the servant where she and Isaac get married.

Gen 19:  God brings His wrath on Sodom and Gomorrah because of their wickedness.
Disobedience leads Lot’s wife to an instant death and Lot’s daughters carries out a deceptive act against their father in order to preserve the family lineage.
Gen 20: God reveals to Abimelech in a dream that Sarah was actually Abraham’s wife  and not his sister; that if he did not return her to him that there would be consequences.
Gen 21:  Sarah finally gives birth to Isaac --  the child that God had promised to give her.  Hagar and Ishmael are sent away with minimum resources. As Hagar cries out to God in despair, an angel from heaven was sent to comfort her and addressed the concerns of her heart. As so it is with us today – as we cry out to God, He will answer.
