This is taken from the full interview. Tom has a conversation with Clive Davis, the man with the Golden Ears. Clive signed and brought to prominence the likes of Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, Earth, Wind & Fire, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel. He not only signed Carlos Santana during his first run of hits like Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va, he also masterminded his comeback on 1999’s Supernatural with hits like Smooth and Maria Maria. He was the man who managed to convince The Grateful Dead to record their only top 10 hit, Touch of Grey. At Arista Records he successfully plotted comebacks for Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick, and made Barry Manilow a star. Then Arista Nashville revolutionised country with Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn. He founded LaFace Records with L.A. Reid and Babyface, which signed OutKast and TLC. He co-founded Bad Boy Records with Diddy, which was home to The Notorious B.I.G. At age 90 he still hosted his legendary annual Pre-Grammy party this year. Clive tells Tom some of the stories featured in his Netflix documentary, Clive Davis: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, and his autiobiography, The Soundtrack of My Life.
