The last few episodes have found us learning a lot about our own place in the world and the justices and injustices therein. We're slowly piecing together ways to communicate, and educate ourselves and the people around us about the things that matter.
Why do businesses that hold our data have a responsibility to be transparent about what they do with it? Why is it important that statues are/are not taken down? What's the practical difference between equality, equity, and justice?
These are some of life's biggest questions, and we want to know what you're all thinking, so drop us a comment, DM or even give us a call and we'd love to get the conversation under way.
About Is This Thing On Podcast:
Is This Thing On Podcast is an audio and video series created by Michael Jansen and Alysia Knowles to talk about all things Culture, Business, News, and Lifestyle.
As professional Content Creators and good friends, we've been having entertaining conversations for the longest time, and really wanted to be able to share them with you. If not for the purpose of offering our perspective and spin on things, then at the very least to entertain you.
About Alysia Knowles:
Alysia is a full time content producer working with influencers in the Middle East and Europe. She loves being behind the camera as much as she enjoys being in front of it. Spoken Word poetry is where she finds catharsis, performing on various stages, sharing the more intimate details of her life. If she isn't on stage you will find her chatting away at whatever social event is being hosted from music to comedy. She is a patron of the arts in its purest form.
About Michael Jansen:
Michael is a professional content creator for business to business brands. From everything to hosting client podcasts to developing their strategies he’s often found behind a laptop creating something cool. Born in South Africa and raised while travelling all over the Middle East, and North and East Africa - he’s an international kid with big ideas for the world, but he doesn’t take it all too seriously. If there’s food, jokes, music, football (soccer), or travel involved; he’s there.

We're trying to get to 1000 supporters on Patreon by December 31st 2020, and we need your help!
In this episode we got into some of the bigger news pieces in the world today! India is banning TikTok, but will they follow through and kill Indian TikTok (which we know has immense entertainment value), Facebook is in trouble with their advertisers, Belgium sent a letter to the Congo to acknowledge the damages of colonialism, and it seems like we didn't have enough pandemics already because China is seeing a scary new version of Swine Flu emerge!
We want to know what you're all thinking about the madness of every day life so drop us a comment, DM or even give us a call and we'd love to get the conversation under way.

The way that we consume our news has really changed in the last couple of decades, and the situation has become dire for old school journalism!
We broke down how we approach the consumption of everything from current affairs to cat memes - and what that could mean for the likes of CNN, BBC, Fox et al.
We want to know what you're all thinking about the madness of every day life so drop us a comment, DM or even give us a call and we'd love to get the conversation under way.

What happens when identity politics, questionable business practices, and corrupt authority figures collide? Well, take a look around you. This is what happens.
In this episode, we discussed the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle, why Russell Brand might actually be right about what's going on there, and why Jeff Bezos has to testify in front of congress!
There's a lot to unpack, and we're well aware that the world is still in chaos, which is precisely why we're bring you a different perspective that might offer either a bit of education or entertainment.

So, this is a difficult time in the world, and we want to offer our perspectives on some the most difficult topics we're faced with, because racial injustice is not just a topic to discuss. It's the daily experience for Black people around the world, and has been for centuries. We want to offer our support in whatever way we can - and that's by creating something, and speaking the truth that we have to offer.
This episode revolves specifically around what our role as white people is in progressing this movement forward and ensuring we do not end up here again. This is all about trying to be and do better. To be the change, and make the steps, however uncomfortable.
This is not a "Black Problem". It is our problem. All of us have had a hand in creating, and/or benefiting from the system, either consciously or unconsciously...
The time has come to acknowledge our place, and act accordingly. It's time to stand on the right side of history.
All the resources we've mentioned in the episode, and support that can be given, can be found on the link below:
http://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co
So we've taken a break for the last couple of weeks to think, strategise, rest and recover.
We're getting back into our production and release schedule, and to kick us off we're bringing you episode 12.
We spoke about some of the news in media, podcasts, Tik Tok (of course, which is our favourite app) and why it's so bloody difficult for us to receive feedback.
It's not that we don't understand the value of constructive criticism, we just have egos. And we kind of struggle to deal with that, because we're human, and we just want compliments!

[DISCLAIMER] That title is a completely made up statistic.
But you believed it, because you probably do it too, and you know it! We've definitely done it in the past, and it's something we're always working on. It's good to take a step back and be self-aware enough to say "Yes, I am good at this."
We covered why Kim Kardashian is making face masks, why professional athletes restarting training may not be a good idea, and why Generation Z is going to have a REALLY tough time post-coronavirus.
We got especially deep when it comes to our own journeys of self-awareness and talent; even sharing some things we've never spoken about before. Ultimately it comes down to being brave enough to take ownership of your abilities - regardless of how you want to use them.
If you're reading this leave us a comment or send us a DM and let us know if it's something you've ever struggled with and what you do about it.

In a world where business leaders are giving their perspectives on what a post-coronavirus world will look like, we decided the world needed our opinions and perspectives as well!
In Episode 10 we broke down our reactions to an Instagram post from Bloomberg featuring the likes of legendary investor Ray Dalio; Quibi CEO Meg Whitman, Former Chief of the European Central Bank; and we gave them our advice on how to approach things once life goes back to "normal".
We also got realistic about our journey of the last 10 episodes and where we want to go from here, the highs, the lows, and the absolute randomness that shows up in between. RedBull, anyone?

If you're like us - you've got loads of videos, pictures, documents, and random little files on your devices; be it phone, laptop, tablets etc. Getting rid of all of the unnecessary stuff is so satisfying. The digital spring clean is such a cathartic process.
In a deeper sense, we also need to take stock of the mental clutter that comes along with our very intense day-to-day lives; whether that requires using Alysia's Bullet Journal style or my calendar-management that ensures you have the time to rest.
In this episode we also talked about how coronavirus is taking shape, and how governments and businesses are reacting and trying to keep everything moving without riots or a second wave of the pandemic!
Also - if you're reading this... Send us your thoughts on mental decluttering. Do you do it? How do you do it? We would love to hear from you!

As creators, as family members, as employees/employers, and even just as human beings there are plenty of difficult things we have to do as adults. Learning how to say 'No' is one of those difficult things; and for both Alysia and I, it's something we're still learning to do.
With the help of books, a bit of can('t)-do attitude, and knowing what you really want out of life it gets a bit easier. We tried to break down the thinking and the feelings involved when trying to say no to something that you may not have the time, energy, or willingness for.
In Episode 9 we also spoke about why Adele broke the internet on her birthday, and the fact that coronavirus travel restrictions are making my life SUPREMELY DIFFICULT - despite being safe and healthy.
