Celebrating Pride & perseverance! Our special guest Leigh Finke graciously and candidly shares her personal journey that led her to finding the liberating light of queer joy! As the first transgender legislator in the Minnesota House, she advocates for the rights of ALL and reminds us that the trans community has been here forever, that full inclusion is the only goal and to please – Stay Safe. Keep Fighting! Musical guest Andra Suchy confirms that stubbornness is her superpower and performs songs written while navigating challenging times, including a freaky accident that has forced her to find a new path forward. Guitarist, Jeremy Ylvisaker & vocalist Janey Winterbauer join Andra. Becca Dryden with the supportive organization, Transforming Families MN, wants us to remember that trans kids just want to be kids. Silvia Pontaza considers that courage is not always loud, but instead a quiet refusal to give up. Shanan Custer discovers that her fear isn’t cellular after all. Violinist/creator DGS celebrates the triumphs and honors the struggles of all of those facing systems of oppression. Zippy Laske encourages us to keep on showing who we truly are. And Sue Scott believes that the best way to become an ally might simply be a willingness to learn.

Stephanie March, creator of The Salt Cure Restaurant Recovery Fund, details the urgent need in the Twin Cities, post ICE occupation, to support restaurants and their workers. Our generous audience donated over $6500 to this fund! Ann Treacy with Women’s March MN takes us through the dedication of this all-volunteer organization to plan, organize and live stream every event, vigil and march! Katie Eckeberger, a song leader with the Singing Resistance movement, leads our audience through two original songs that motivate us to not only continue fighting, but to heal.  Dae Yang shares powerfully how Metro Surge affected her personal perception of what living in the “land of the free” really means as a child of refugees.  And Sue, supported by a gorgeous new song from Zippy Laske, brings us stories of the angels who are showing up out of nowhere just when we need them most.

Sheila O’Connor’s book, “The Evidence of V: A Novel in Fragments, Facts and Fictions,” is inspired by her search to find the story about her unknown grandmother who was incarcerated in Sauk Centre, MN in 1935 with the sole transgression of being pregnant at 15. Not only did Sheila unearth family secrets that now make sense, but she also discovered a world in which young pregnant girls were treated as criminals, shamed into silence and erased from history.  Musical guest singer/songwriter Jonatha Brooke & playwright Laurie Flanigan Hegge were first introduced by my husband, Ron Peluso, recently retired as the long-time Artistic Director of the History Theatre. Struck by Sheila’s work, he asked if Jonatha and Laurie would be interested in collaborating on a musical bringing to life Sheila’s quest for the truth about V and so many girls like her.  Though they had never met, they immediately bonded through their shared love of Sheila’s commitment to find the evidence of V. We hear songs from their powerful musical that gives V a voice.  Autumn Mason, a doula with the Minnesota Prison Doula Project was originally a client personally experiencing the trauma of incarceration, family separation and prison birth. She shares insights into what is possible now for supporting incarcerated parents.  Plus, reflecting on the rounding up of immigrants, Silvia Pontaza imagines Emma Lazarus’ poem in Spanish and Zippy Laske, with host Sue Scott, brings us an updated “Dear Mitch,” a letter to all the older white guys in power.
