  • The Curse of Never Enough
This text is a courtroom drama: A summons to hear the judge is followed by a four-count indictment and a guilty verdict. God's covenant people turned from him and sought satisfaction and pleasure in the sins and idols of the world; consequently Israel is sentenced to never be satisfied.

  • The Covenant Pathway
The sermon explores one of the most extraordinary demonstrations of God's covenant faithfulness in Scripture, revealing how the Lord's promise to Abram ultimately foreshadows the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. After promising Abram the land of Canaan, God commands him to prepare a solemn covenant ceremony involving animals cut in two, a practice in which those passing between the pieces invoked a curse upon themselves should they break their agreement. The sermon examines Abram's divinely induced sleep, the terrifying holiness of God's presence, and the prophecy of Israel's four hundred years of oppression, emphasizing that God's sovereign purposes unfold according to His perfect timing. The central revelation occurs when God appears as a smoking furnace and flaming torch, passing alone between the divided animals while Abram remains passive. By swearing upon His own eternal being, God unconditionally guarantees the fulfillment of His covenant promises. Yet this remarkable act anticipates an even greater demonstration of divine grace in the New Covenant, where Jesus Christ not only walks the pathway of death but actually bears the covenant curse Himself. Through His sacrifice, Christ secures the redemption and eternal inheritance of His people, providing the ultimate assurance that God's promises cannot fail and nothing can separate believers from His everlasting love.

  • The Shepherd's Burden
Sermon | Amos 1:1-2 | Sunday Evening Service, November 01, 2026. Preacher: Rocky Stevenson This sermon introduces the Book of Amos by establishing the historical context of the Northern Kingdom of Israel during the reign of Jeroboam II, a period marked by material prosperity and spiritual complacency. The central message emphasizes that God speaks through chosen messengers, highlighting Amos's unique identity as a shepherd and fig farmer from Judah who was called to deliver a burden of judgment to the wealthy elite of Samaria. The exposition argues that divine authority rests on the message rather than the messenger's credentials, using the metaphor of a lion's roar to illustrate the inescapable nature of God's word. Furthermore, the sermon situates Amos within real history, noting the specific dating provided in the text and the subsequent earthquake, to demonstrate that God's judgment is grounded in historical reality rather than abstract theology. The tone is instructional and pastoral, urging the audience to recognize that national success does not equate to divine approval and to remain sensitive to God's voice in their own lives. #Amos #prophecy #justice #judement #shepherd Visit Benoni Bible Church: www.benonibiblechurch.co.za Address: 149 President Brand Rd, Rynfield, Benoni - view on Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/oag383xq3U2b7RQN6 Copyright © 2026, Benoni Bible Church. • Our True Deliverer and the gods Who Cannot Save
This Sunday we begin working through the midway point in the book Judges. This transition begins in our passage this week, and stretches on into Jephthah's view in the coming weeks. The continuing reminder is that we need a king, and none of these judges have been the deliverer the people ultimately need: the king they need is Christ. But this point in the book also reminds us that although bad leaders are not good, an even worse state is the mob rule of the ungoverned. Abimelech showed how bad a truly evil ruler can be, but the worse state actually comes later: "In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes." (21:25) It is good for God's people to pray for godly authorities.

  • Liberty to the Captives
(AI Generated Summary) The sermon addresses the human condition of being enslaved to sin and worldly desires, illustrating this bondage through the analogy of Israel in Egypt and Edmund in Narnia. It emphasizes that good works alone cannot liberate a person from this captivity, as the heart remains under the control of sin. The central message presents the Gospel as the sole source of true freedom, where Jesus proclaims liberty to the captives and redeems believers through His grace rather than their own righteousness. By looking to Christ alone, believers are set free from the power of sin and transformed by the Holy Spirit. This new freedom results in a changed heart that willingly serves God, becoming slaves of righteousness and walking in joyful obedience.

  • He Shall Reign Forever & Ever
This sermon concludes a study of the book of Zechariah by examining Chapter 14, which details the events of the Day of the Lord, the seven-year tribulation, and the subsequent millennial reign. The teaching highlights the physical return of Jesus Christ to the Mount of Olives, the resulting geological changes in Jerusalem, and the defeat of the nations gathered against the city. It emphasizes that God actively intervenes in human history to judge the wicked and preserve a remnant of Israel, who will experience spiritual redemption and physical safety. The passage further describes the establishment of God's kingdom, where all nations are required to worship the Lord during the Feast of Tabernacles, and even common objects become holy under His sovereign rule. The tone is instructional and eschatological, urging believers to understand God's sovereign plan and the certainty of His future intervention.
