"Something inside me snapped," he said, explaining how learning about gender transitions on children seven years ago sparked his decision to begin covering the topic. "It chilled my blood."

Showalter said he became incredibly disturbed by the surgeries, disfigurement, and medicalization of young people.

"More broadly than just the medical scandal is just how dangerous the ideology is because of how it assaults reality and truth," he said.
