  • Episode 359 – Events Updates, Rubik’s Cube Competitions, Umbrella Academy Season 2, Binging
Hey, this is episode three 59 of the one and all the in the D show broadcasting live from our houses. This is Bob, the sales guy that is Dave geek. Randy, I do the Twitters is arguing about satellite broadband. You can find us [email protected] and do us a favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold. I mean, you should. Cause I mean, God knows you're not going to see us anytime soon.

    Uh huh
No, we were hell bent. We were all bent on doing an event in August. That's not happening. Nope. Did we were hell bent on doing that last event in March. We were like, it'll be fine. We're good to go. And, and then it all came tumbling down. I'm leaning I'm so we were like, I think I'm just gonna put it on the calendar for September. Just see what happens. Right. Well that's all you can do at this point. You know, just see what happens. Well, you know, Thursday, September, um, we're either going to, we're probably going to be at Nancy whiskeys down at Corktown. So, uh, put it on your calendars and then just keep an eye on what we're saying and doing, because obviously we're not going to put anybody in danger and we want everybody to be safe and cool, except for you. And you know who you are, we'll put you in danger.
Yeah, no, I mean, it's, it's been a weird dude. I mean, you know, with just watching, you know, what's going on and, and you've got, you know, some States that are rolling back, uh, you've got, you know, an and starting to close up bars and restaurants again, you've got, you know, all the debates with school, you know, that are going on left and right. I mean, I got, you know, teacher, friends and parent friends and it's, this is like just the biggest cluster of clusters that I've seen. I like, there's been nothing like this in my life. Like, no, cause here's, here's the thing like, and this reminds me of arguments I've had at work before someone needs to drop the gavel because you have too many people saying too many things at the same time. Like it's like, that's okay. That's not okay. That's okay.
But this isn't okay. You know? And you know, if he had fries, then it's okay. That's not okay, but not chicken wings or chicken wings, but not fries and chicken, chicken strips, but not chicken wings, chicken, you can be outdoors or you're going to be on motorcycles. New, new, new, new that's bad. No, no, no, you can't do that like, Oh, well, okay. So there's, there's a tie into one of our stories. Like everybody's kind of tweaking big. Well, and there's a difference between being on motorcycles and being on motorcycles, outdoors, and then being on a motorcycle outdoor with 250,000
Other people and bringing great dude. You ever, you ever been to a biker party? You ever been? Oh, when I was at Daytona for spring break, when I was negative the last week of biker week. And how, how socially distant our people during those events. They're common dot. Well, yeah. Cause they were going to kick your ass if you were the guy with the sun and blonde hair and the cheese,
    Why
And the white tree torn. Yeah, the, yeah, the, uh, the wannabe Brian Bosworth look alike. Yeah. They weren't really interested in hanging out with you. Yeah, yeah. Um, no, just, I just wish someone would have a consensus. Um, cause like, yeah, now the school thing now, like normally that type of thing would come from the federal government
    Leaders
And it's like, can we pick a doctor that like says wear masks, then the first thing he goes to in public doesn't wear one while he's sitting two feet from people. Well, but, and I do it, like I saw that meme a lot and it's one of those like, okay, so the person to his right was wearing a mask, uh, the person too. And, and he had it pulled down. So for all you knew, like he had just finished taking a drink of a beer or soda or whatever it is that you know, that the Fowchee drinks, I'm not going to put it. You know, I'm not going to cast dispersions on his character. Um, although, Hey there, so there's another good tie in speaking of casting aspersions on his character, uh, there was that little kerfluffle that happened a little bit ago where I it's, it's kinda like a hullabaloo, but a little bit, but a little bit boring.
Um, somebody came out a while ago and accused of Fowchee of sexual misconduct, uh, you know, kind of trying to meet to him. Um, and now as doubled back and admitted that not only did she make the entire thing up, um, but she has been paid by Trump supporters, uh, to do this more, not only to foul G but to one other person back in January. Um, so apparently there's just an industry. Uh, there's a whole little cottage industry out there, uh, for making me to announcements about people. So that's awesome. Yeah. It's an election season, Dave, that shit happens every year. And even though dude, it's one of those things where like intellectually, I know that, but I still hope for better for us as a society. There's nothing funnier like in the last year than the crowd at the Dave Chappelle standup, where he talks about Jesse SMO small. Yay.
    Okay.
That crowd, man, I swear to God they're going to come out of their shoes when he did that whole bit. Anyway. So there's, there's one thing I'm going to get yelled at for, for, um, I finally started watching, um, and I can't stop watching it and it's probably the greatest thing I've ever seen. It's by the greatest written show, hands down, I thought it's always sunny was my top, like 1.1%
    Letter. Kenny has it
They've they did a good job with that. They did
I'm eight years late to the game or whatever the hell it's eight. I finally caved and got Hulu cause Magdalena wanted to watch whatever show.
Well, which means you can watch top gun. Cause that's on Hulu. I'm not gonna, I, and it was even featured. So I was like, well, I, I, I remember top gun and I turned top gun on and dude, that's still a really good movie. I really, really, I really, really, really hate Tom cruise, but I really, really, really liked that movie.
It was on a, the eighties movies with the kids list, but I swear to God, the one thing I hate and love about letter Kenny is, you know, how I love witty banter and like the back and forth and like all day I've been watching it right now. I'm on the third season almost at the end of the third season. I can't give one good day
Solid quote. Cause it's so fast. Oh, it's rapid fire. It absolutely. Is it? Yeah.
A to Z thing in the front. Like I would like to remember one thing from this and repeat it to somebody how funny it is. I got nothing like literally not even tried to, like, I can't think of anything that I can repeat, but it's insane how funny it is.
Like, cause I haven't gone back and started watching it a second time yet, but, but I've heard like I've from what I've heard from people is like, that's one of those shows that you'll catch more of that stuff the second time around, like, it'll get to me like do it, like how many times have we seen star Wars? You know? And, and so, you know, those quotes come second nature, you know, how many times
Calm and calculated. And the wines are very deliverable like letter Kenny's like, like the Energizer bunny, like that guy, you know, or like the last three seconds of a mortgage commercial,
Right? Yeah. The uh, the old micro machines guy, blah, blah, blah.
That's number four. It's like, I can't like for that guy, he's got to win an Oscar or whatever the hell the acting award is for like keeping a straight face through that shit. Like I've never, I've never seen the bloopers, but watching that guy delivered,
Oh, I would love to see a blooper reel from that for damn sure.
You can't, I don't know how they don't like the ones that in the ice fishing tent talking about sushi, how are they not laughing? Like you don't want add Zs to the sushis. I can't even repeat it. It's it makes it does it zero.
It's just, it's just, yeah. It's it's not good, but I mean, so we do, we always dive into shows. We've been watching. Um, I, uh, before we get to the good ones, um, I'm going to touch on the bad. Um, yeah, so there's a thing on Netflix called the speed. Cubers I didn't get to that yet. Oh yeah. Uh, so this is about the Rubik's cube solving world championships. Uh, it is a documentary that is roughly 40 minutes long. Uh, and it follows the story of guy in Australia who used to hold all the world records. Uh, and then a kid from the U S uh, who has autism and has owned him like breaks all of his records. Um, but the best part is like, they're like super good friends. Like, and, and the guy from Australia, like is really encouraging. Like it's kind of like a little feel, good story and that kind of stuff, but just like, so apparently at here's what I did. So we all re like Rubik's cube, they got, you know, the little three cubes by three cubes and six sides. And yet Eddie, yada, um, they had some ones with you. Remember the pyramid, the Rubix pyramid that, that was out for awhile. Yeah. It was the peer group experiment. Uh, okay. Did you know that there were four by four, five by five, six by six and seven by seven versions of the Rubik's cube that are out there.
Quick clip of that. And I go, that's not my Rubik's cube tag, not my cube. Oh. They're like huge squares. And it gives like bird with it. I'm like, no, no, no. Those things were
Bitch to turn. Yeah. So there, yeah. Well, and that's the thing, dude. And there's so, and then there's like the regular championship, like the Ray, and then there's the one handed solving competition. Like you have like they do, they do it one handed That's that's not what I'm solving those. Yeah. There's a, there's a Rubik's cube joke there somewhere. Give me that
For these things. Look like they're on ball-bearings with WB.
Well, yeah. And I'm curious, like, if there is like, like,...

  • Episode 358, talking about security and the usual fun and excitement with Patrick Garrity
What is up? Thank you for hanging out with us. Once again. It's money night. It is time for the it in the D show. This is episode three 58 broadcasting live from our quarantine homes. This is Bob, the sales guy that is Dave. The geek Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitter, his finest online it in the D dot comma. Do us a favor. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine. Podcasts are sold. Yeah. So, Hey everybody, I'm again, this is usually where we talk about our events and we're still not having any, so moving right along Chicka boom, Chicka, boom. He's a looking, I do not anticipate in August of any, even if it is outdoors.

Yeah. It's yeah. I mean, looking at everything going on. I mean, I'm keeping an honestly, I'm keeping a closer eye on what's going on, what door what's going to go on with schools right now, more than anything else. Um, but it's uh, yeah, I I'm, let's just say, yeah, it's not looking good. No, but the show must go on. And now we are joining where luckily joined. We were, we had him scheduled out right. When the suitors were still open. We had to come. I think this was back in March or April. Oh, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. And he's shot me a note and said, Hey, I still want me on. I said, yeah, it's not a bad time. So, uh, we're joined by the, uh, the illustrious one. Mr. Pat Garrity. How you doing, sir?
Great. Thanks for having me on the show today. Yeah.
Thanks for joining us. Appreciate it now. Um, before we get into it, now, you're the VP of engineering at blue Mira operations, operations.
I oversee product marketing sales. Got it. I mean, do everything, whatever needs to get them
Every, uh, every once in a while we run into, I run into someone at an event. They basically takes over my LinkedIn feed and I like to congratulate you on my LinkedIn feed. That's great to hear.
Hey, it's not, you can attribute that. Not to me too, is a amazing, she does content marketing for, for a, I almost said duo, but blue Mira. Um, and, uh, yeah, it's been amazing. The work that she does and also like our security team is creating a ton of the content as well, and trying to make useful stuff for people, uh, in the security industry.
So, so you're just putting it all out there, trying to look important and smart is what you're saying. You're not actually creating any of it. You're just,
Yeah, I can't, you know, some bit idea wise, um, pointing people in the right direction, but yeah, the team, the team is truly the ones working on that and publishing some cool stuff and some free tools and whatnot.
That's awesome. So one of the reasons I was intrigued about having you on the show is a, that I think blue mirror is doing some very cool stuff. And B you kind of have a long history with, uh, you know, with duo, which is kind of a, one of the big, big wind stories. And, you know, and see, I want to talk about what everyone is. Is there a shift in security focus with, with everybody working from home now and, you know, you can kind of reassess your place in the world. So I guess let's start there if your, your, your company X, and you've got half your company or all your company working from home, and you can kind of sit back and look at your, I guess, security strategy. Are you changing right now? Or are you simplifying, are you getting more complex? What what's on everybody's mind right now?
Yes, sir. Certainly simplifying, um, is one of the big themes. I think everyone had these ideas of three to five year cloud migrations, um, moving from on premise to cloud. We see that everywhere. Uh, it's essentially accelerated adoption of all of that. And the reality is, is, Oh man, we didn't have security controls in place. And any on any of those things, we weren't set up for remote work. And now all of a sudden our VPN, you know, has a thousand people on it concurrently smoke. Yeah. Yeah. So, so even, you know, I look at it, it's like even a lot of people still don't have two factor authentication deployed. I mean, as simple as that, uh, very effective control, right? So it's accelerated a ton of the security market. That's set up to address a lot of those needs.
What's the, uh, just real quick, like to IFA, whatever, if somebody wants to jump in and you know, what are you gonna look at? You're gonna look at Microsoft. You don't look at duo. What's a, I mean, that's kind of, what's on my top of mind. What's on yours.
Yeah. So, so being former duo, um, I could say that, that I might be a little bit biased, but I can tell you, yeah, I can tell you as well, now that I left you, I'm using a lot of other products. Um, and what I can tell you is they work effective, but they're not as reliable or user friendly. And so I, you know, there's some products, I'm not gonna name names that like they're inconsistent and popping your log in up. You get frustrated as a user. Um, and so I can, I can with confidence, say like duo by far has user experience down on the MFA side. The other thing I'd say from an access security side is they have some really strong controls around access control, as it relates to corporate owned devices and BYOB devices, where now they have an agent that can be installed to posture that device.
That's a really important thing to make sure things are up to date encrypted. And that there's a screen lock, especially when we're talking about someone using their home computer and making sure it's not windows XP. Cause the reality is there's still a lot of people running windows XP. Um, so yeah, those are the things I think of from an access security perspective. And then what's interesting is I spent most of my time on the two FAA side and, and protection, right? Preventative security measures. The other side is, well, how do we detect someone at bypasses? Those which happens everywhere. Um, in, in, you know, the detection response market is one, if you look at SIM, for example, it's complicated, it's difficult to deploy. And to be honest, most organizations don't have a good working detection response capability. So, uh, yeah, for me, I just saw the opportunity to actually extend some of the, you know, philosophy of what I learned and did at duo with Doug and Jonno and others and apply it to a different part of the market that really hasn't solved. Um, what I consider to be democratizing security or bringing it to be accessible to organizations of any size. Right.
Yeah. I was just gonna say, I mean, you know, and I know Bob touched on this a little bit, but I think that's probably the biggest, I would think the biggest concern that people have right now, at least from a corporate security perspective is okay. We, we have completely stood everything on its ear and now you've got, you know, more and more of the workforce working at home. How, how do you, you know, make that shift? I mean, I know there are a lot of companies that, you know, we're kind of banging their hands and chews on the table saying, you know, we're, everybody's coming back to the office and now they're kind of leaning, you know, they're kind of laxing off on that a little bit. Um, you know, you're seeing, you know, the, just the ripple effect of, you know, Hey, the, the court, the, uh, excuse me, the, um, commercial real estate market is already starting to feel it a little bit as businesses are giving up their office space and looking to sell buildings cause they don't want them or need them anymore. Uh, so I mean, what are, I guess, you know, what are the quick hits from a, from a corporate security standpoint, as you know, they get pushed into that scramble.
Yeah. So first off, I would say from a shift in market perspective, one thing to consider is people's preferences now that they've worked from home is to work from home. So work from home is not, is not going away. I'm not going into a office, whether there's covert or not, I'll tell you, you know, maybe I might consider every once every other week or a few times a week, but yeah, we proven that out. And another thing is, as people realize they're more productive working from home and corporations realize that as well for good or bad. Right. Um, uh, and so yeah, there is the aspect of making sure that your people have enough time to take care of themselves. They get offline, all those sorts of things. Um, but yeah, really from a security perspective, it's making sure that they have a secure connection in a secure device. Our number one, um, you know, so I, when I look at that, it's, it's, Hey, let's make sure we have certificates in place. We have encryption in place from a connectivity perspective. Like you shouldn't be already peeing into, uh, your company's, um, windows servers directly, but you know, how many people,
But a lot of people are. Yup.
Yeah. If you have already, you know, windows already, peer SMB enable, then it's accessible publicly. Like that's a bad, no, no, that's the number one way ransomware is deployed. Um, and so yeah, just getting the fundamentals of like making sure that you have secure access, whether it's to a, uh, or whether it's to a cloud application and then layering on number one, uh, user controls and then device controls to make sure you have that. So, uh, two factor authentication, absolutely key, no questions asked, um, pro preferably you use a hardened credentials. So something like YouTube, Fido, web authen push based authentication.
Let me, let me take a step back just for, you know, cause we do, we do get our demographic. Isn't always as techie as we think it is. Um, so, so for those of you who are watching, listening, whatever, and aren't familiar with two factor authentication, so that's, you know, it can be as simple as, Hey, I'm logging into my Facebook account and Facebook shoots me a text message that I then have to, you know, with a code that I then have to enter, you know, this is okay. Yeah. This is me. Um, there are other apps, you know,...

  • Episode 357 – Furbies, Ghostbusters vs Stranger Things, Treasure Hunting, and of course Masks
Hey, welcome. We are live. This is episode three 57 of the it, and the D show. We are broadcasting live from our homes. This is Bob, the sales guy that is Dave. The geek Randy. I do the Twitters is doing the Twitter is finding us [email protected] and do us a favor, give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold.
Yeah. And so, uh, I mean, yet again, this is where we usually talk about events and we ain't doing them right now. Uh, so we are hopeful that we'll be, uh, doing those again in August. Uh, we're going to see how all this shakes out, you know what I mean? You guys know as well as we do. Nobody knows what the hell is going on. Um, you know, our, our bars and restaurants going to stay open, our school's going to open, who knows? We're going to see what happens.

Is anything going to open? Yeah, no kidding. No, I mean, right now, tentative, I think we're either going to do Nancy whiskeys on the patio. Um, and I wouldn't be opposed to DSC and other, they have that back door or the back alley, a beach party thing going on. That wouldn't be a bad
Either. So yeah. And I mean, it's, it's decent. I mean, even the indoor courtyard, um, is, is really wide open. I mean, there's, you know, I mean, that's that whole space to, um, I mean, that's, you know, the issue with, you know, booking something outdoors is your weather dependent, you know, I mean, you know, DSE wound up closing all their restaurants and stuff on Sunday because of all the rain did they really well, it's a thing. If you have no indoor seating, what are you going to do,
Dave? You know how bored we all are?
    How bored are we?
We are so bored that Netflix has put on supermarket sweep from the eighties that I'm watching.
Aye. Okay. It's it's bad enough that it's on. It's worse that you're watching. Do you remember? Oh yes, no, I do. Are you, are you about to say, do you remember the time? Nope.
No. So I was going September. Actually. You were going to Michael Jackson, but that's okay. Here's how bad this show is. Like the guy that's really the guy, the host is dead inside. Like you're watching all, you can tell he's reading cue cards. And he had such
High hopes of being gene, Rayburn of being, you know, the guy from Joker's wild of being Pat say Jack, but no, he's the supermarket sweeps guy. That's that's the gig. He landed.
If you can hear it in his inflection, how daddy is.
Oh yeah. Oh, he's, he's not, he's not, well, someone should check on him and see if he's doing okay.
Who's dressing these people. These people were wearing different colored sweatshirts, like a purple and a pink and orange. One with white polos underneath with the collar flipped out. Like, I mean, like which of these three items,
Bob? Bob, it was, it was the eighties. People wore that. I didn't say you did. I didn't, but people who were that, it was a thing.
No, Mark did the best line. And he goes out and white is all the women on the show look like Marcy Darcy.
Oh, they absolutely do. They. Yeah, no, I've, I've clicked through a couple episodes. It's they? They absolutely do
Part of like, you have to load up your shopping cart and get the most expensive crap. So like everyone, all they have is these cards full of hams and diapers.
They run to the meat aisle and load up on all of the, like the roasts and the ribs and the, and the hams and the Turkey. They just it's. It's ridiculous. It's yeah. If you've never seen it and you want to see the kind of shit that we were stuck with in the eighties could go check out supermarket sweeps and, and, and then, and then feel bad for us. And they're getting
I'm like, why don't they go after the scallops instead of the hams, then they're in the diaper. I'm like, why don't they go after the Similac and not the diapers they got in the shopping cart, they got to fail. You know what I mean? Anyway, I can't believe that that's on Netflix.
Who knows? I would love to know what they paid for the rights to it. Like, I don't know what six bucks, six bucks I, who, who even knows, uh, what, uh, God, there was something else that was on here. Oh, I, uh, and speaking of eighties and, and I'm, I'm kinda mad about this, um, uh, Fletch, reboot, dude, uh, Fletch, reboot, starring, starring captain madman. Yeah. John ham. Not, uh, not, not, not, not feeling this, not, not feeling this at all.
Can't they just make a movie,
John ham. That's kind of like, but isn't like a spirit, a reboot.
Here's the thing. Or if it's his nephew, like, remember like my Ghostbusters with the women. Yeah. I would have loved it if it would have just been like, Hey,
The kids or the, yeah, yeah.
The nephew did this thing and then we're going to do it too. Like if it's just a rip off
With the newest one, which is it's the grandkid and his friends, I think it's, Egan's grandkid. Oh, the ghost busters. Yeah.
    After everyone screams at them,
I don't know why we didn't do that. We were stupid dirt, Peter.
Yeah. PR was a long time dream of mine to produce this film with John, give me a break. Like honest to God.
It couldn't have been one. And reading that whole story about how they had a Kevin Smith attached to it. And he really wanted Jason Lee in the role, which honestly I could see like that, that makes more sense. That makes a shit ton more sense to me than John ham. Uh, you know, and then a good old Harvey Weinstein, uh, put the kibosh on that, uh, and demanded that Ben Affleck take the role. Uh, and which again, I, I can't see Ben Affleck, like I said, you can't have like a stereotypical, but I mean, Affleck's always been kind of a pretty boy. You can't have a pretty boy in that role. That's not what that is, but yeah. To Chevy chase Chevy chase is not a pretty boy. Ain't nobody on this planet. Call it Chevy. Chase are pretty. Yeah. Good looking for a dad. Yeah. I mean, yeah.
He's you need like kind of the dad. Yeah. I just, whatever I was was not a fan. I'm not going to be a fan. I'm not going to go see it. You know, I wish we would take the Chevy chase kind of like roll, cut. Who's the guy that plays Barry, um, named just farted on me. I can't think Barry. And what HBO? The show Barry he's. He was on SNL. He always does bill. Like I always wished he would get more bigger roles cause I always liked him. Um, but do you want to feel, you want to feel really old by the way? No, I really don't. Can we stop it? Cause I keep like, all these memes are popping up where Oh yeah. The breakfast club was 37 years ago today. Oh this and that was it. It was 40 years ago today.
And to me, mine was 39 years ago today. But go ahead. I know where you're going and screw you, Jake Ryan, J Ryan, he's turning 60, not 16, six, zero 60. I feel like they should do one of those. Like, you know, those reunions that are going around, like on all the online reunion and they should do 60 candles and they should, and it should be him and like Molly Ringwald and get them all back together. Uh, you know, Getty, Watson hobby, you know, what's he doing these days anyway, get him, uh, and, and, and just had to have a little reunion, you know, Anthony might, you know, Anthony Michael Hall will be down to do it. Um, yeah. Yeah. I think 60 candles should happen. And if anybody does that I'm I want it's mine. I'm just saying that I called it takes her on a date to sign a beef. Carver. They go play bingo. They go to like red naps at three o'clock in the afternoon, or, you know, whatever, like a Denny's, you know, whatever, you know, he still got the Porsche nine 44, you know, Anthony, Michael Hall walks out with the underwear that are this wide or, you know, or it's a pair of depends, you know, whatever. I'm just saying, you can do Aliyah. You don't. Why don't you write it? You're bored. I got nothing going on. Yeah, no kidding. You Dawn's.
Um, so I didn't realize I downloaded tick tock just because it was a thing and I put it on my phone and I, um, I got rid of it and it's so addicting. It, I didn't, I thought it was stupid. Like just like the stupid date. Did you need to do dances? And I'm like, half of them were J-Lo in a rod doing stupid stuff and I was like, whatever I'm done. Um,
But man, this company that, you know, like they're seriously under huge scrutiny, did we? Uh,
