Breaking the story of David Limbrick MP and Tim Quilty MP protesting on the steps of Parliament in Victoria, Australia.

After Premier Dan Andrews shut down parliament, these two MPs took the only action they could - continue to legally work in their workplace (parliament), albeit on the steps, standing up for the children of Victoria who have been crushed by lockdowns.

Their only demand? Open the outdoor playgrounds and let the kids play. Interestingly, David and Tim are the ONLY legal protestors in the state due to lockdown. They are actually legally still 'working' at their workplace as politicians 'conducting parliamentary business'.

I purchased a cheap second hand keyboard, which honestly sounds pretty tinny. But then I figured out how to connect to a PC and have it trigger the most expensive concert grand pianos in the world.

So now, for a few hundred dollars, I have the absolute best piano I've ever played. The string resonance and the responsiveness is astounding. Even pedal noise is sampled.

You literally cannot buy this grand piano - they've gone and found the best instruments in the world and recorded their sounds so now anyone can have them in their bedroom.

Incredible.

This is just me randomly exploring this new thick sample by Keyscape (the C7 Grand) to see how the highs, the lows, the loud and the gentle sounds. I cannot fault it!

For the nerds: Korg 88 key weighted (B2 in this case) MIDI over USB to PC running Keyscape, onboard soundcard no latency noticed, 3.5mm out into a mixer behind me feeding into my cans and into audacity on the laptop. Didn't want to record on the same machine as Keyscape.

We're safe. Great. 

Thank you Dan Andrews, Gladys Berejiklian, Mark McGowan and Anastasia Palaszczuk. There are other Premiers and a Prime Minister, sure, but you four are the most responsible for 'keeping us all safe' from Covid-19 with your 'fast and hard' lockdowns, consequences be damned.

You are therefore also responsible for those consequences. Here is a looming one: the mental health crisis in our children, which is rapidly spiraling into a physical health crisis.

In this sit down with Dr Carolyne Bosak and David Limbrick MP we completely ignored the ballooning weight and other markers of sickness in our children associated with a sedentary and isolated lifestyle. We focused on the elephant in the room - exploding cases of depression, self harm, and suicide ideation caused by lockdowns. These are slowly being proven in the statistics and it was always going to take time because of the lag built into this type of data collection.

Harms from Covid-19 may be more immediate and therefore more apparent, but that does not mean they are more severe than what we must now watch unfold for the coming years. The emerging data showing the mental health disaster is not predicted to peak until mid 2022. 

There is a long road to travel.

Dr James Muecke AM is our 2020 Australian of the Year for his work as an eye surgeon over many decades restoring sight for thousands of people around the world. His non-profit organisation Sight For All educates both patients and opthalmic/optometric health practitioners in countries around the world and has seen a correlative rise of poor eye health with Type 2 Diabetes.

This led Dr Muecke to investigate the causal factors behind Type 2 Diabetes which he now considers to be a 'largely preventable and potentially reversible man-made lifestyle disease'. He places the blame at the feet of insane consumption levels of fructose, with a secondary contributor industrial seed oils, causing inflammation and damage throughout bodily systems manifesting early and clearly in the delicate structure of the eye.

He is a campaigner for 'Awareness, Accountability and Assistance' around the exploding Type 2 Diabetes epidemic globally.

A disturbing reality has emerged after Sydney's protests. Previously compassionate friends, family and colleagues have summoned their inner 'Mr Hydes' to now wish upon thousands of people: death, incarceration without trial, sickness, accidents and economic destruction.

Incensed by what they perceive as a gross act of injustice (protesting during a pandemic and lockdown and thus placing Sydneysiders at increased risk) they have reversed the axiom 'execute justice but love mercy'. They are taking it beyond execution and are relishing justice.

It is particularly disturbing to taste the vitriol pouring forth from the same people who ordinarily profess compassion and mercy (whether by their religion, or their secular big-heartedness). They have abandoned their principles. But only because they have confused the verbs.

We are not called to 'love' justice. And we shouldn't - every society that truly 'loves' justice pursues it with a rigour that casts aside mercy as a weak and inconvenient impediment.

Which is odd, considering modern society's desire to clothe itself in the most virtuous causes possible of compassion, equality, acceptance, and understanding.

Such is its desire that we legislate compassion, we erect statues and buildings to equality, we valorise and enforce cultures of acceptance and mercy, but then we discard actions of justice where it competes with mercy. 

Because 'love trumps hate', 'mercy over justice' or [insert some other platitude here].

So we 'execute' or 'do' mercy, whilst 'loving' justice. It is a disastrous reversal that may feel good for those indulging therein but ultimately delivers a twisted world where justice is diluted for whatever fleeting wave of righteousness fills our fickle human hearts.

Instead, imagine a world where justice was executed. Always. Where corruption is sidelined. Where courts, police and communities never shy away from doing the right thing. Ever.

But those same courts, police and communities love mercy. They prefer mercy. They look for mercy within the justice. Their hearts were filled with compassion as they executed justice.

This would satisfy both of the hungers within our human hearts: for justice to always prevail, but for mercy to always rule.
