In this episode, we discuss “High-Functioning“ Anxiety and Depression. By exploring what it looks like within the community. Having “High-functioning” anxiety or depression is like playing a role, or wearing a mask. It’s having symptoms and still fulfilling your obligations simply because you have to. Or no one believing you because “you don’t look depressed” or “you don’t look anxious.” It can look like not wanting to get stuff done but doing it anyways because you literally have to. It’s society pushing the narrative that Black women and men aren’t allowed to have off days, and if we do we’re met with microaggressions, or feel as though we aren’t doing enough.
