Two juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with Saturday night assaults that sent two victims to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of “significant” injuries, say police. Officers responded to the 400 block of Floral Avenue and the 600 block of Chestnut Street at about 9:30pm Saturday “for a report of victims of an assault.” Two suspects were arrested but their names are being withheld “as they are under the age of 18.” The victims and attackers did know each other. The victims sustained “significant” injuries, “but their condition is stable.”

This month is the 40th anniversary of the iconic Grateful Dead concert at Cornell’s Barton Hall, and this week, the new “Long Strange Trip” documentary will be at Cinemapolis for four showings. “Long Strange Trip” is an Amazon Original production, and will be available for Amazon Prime subscribers to watch next month. It’s premiering in theaters across the country first, including at Downtown Ithaca’s own Cinemapolis.

And today is the final day at Hal’s Deli, which closes at 4. They’ve run out of a lot of staples, but Hal’s wife Sandy will be presiding one last time, and there’ll be cake for all. The online auction for their equipment runs through Wednesday.

The Cornell Police Department says authorities “recovered a body from Fall Creek a short distance upstream from Ithaca Falls” on Friday morning. They have confirmed the body is that of Aalaap Narasipura, a student reported missing on Thursday.

Ithaca College has a fireworks display on South Hill tonight to celebrate their graduation weekend. Bring your pets inside so they don’t get startled and be aware some neighbors, especially veterans, may not like fireworks.

Hal’s Deli in Downtown Ithaca is closing next Tuesday, May 23rd, with cake for customers. There’s an online auction for lots of their dishware, furnishings, and equipment.

And Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick sparked a discussion of nearly a thousand Facebook comments this week with a seemingly simple question, “Should we allow dogs on the Commons?” People stroll onto the pedestrian plaza with their dogs all the time, either not knowing or not caring about the ban. Some say it’s time to remove the ban or enforce it.

Less than a year after the Maplewood Apartments complex closed on Ithaca’s east hill, Cornell University has broken ground on a new project at the site. The new 872-bed Maplewood complex will offer graduate and professional student housing.

The previous complex was built in 1989, with a planned life span of 25 years. Cornell considered renovating the existing structures, but decided to rebuild with higher density.

Unlike the previous Maplewood complex, the new housing will be financed and managed by EdR, or Education Realty Trust, a company based in Memphis and founded in 2004 by a Cornell University alumnus. That puts the property, and its rental revenue, back on the tax rolls, even though Cornell retains ownership of the land.

Ithaca Police say a man was mugged late Friday night on Schuyler Place, near East Buffalo Street. Cornell police have sent a warning to the campus community about the crime.

the victim reported he was “shoved to the ground, punched and kicked in the head and body while on the ground,” by four black males who approached him on Schuyler Place, a narrow east hill street between Collegetown and Downtown Ithaca.

And Cornell women’s lacrosse fell to Princeton on Sunday in the Ivy League championship game, but an at large bid will send the Big Red to the first round of NCAA action. Cornell will face Notre Dame on March 12th — in Princeton. The winner of Friday’s first-round NCAA game between #11 Cornell and #13 Notre Dame will face Princeton on Sunday to decide the quarterfinal bracket.

The 40th anniversary of the legendary Grateful Dead 5.8.77 show at Cornell’s Barton Hall is here! Cornell’s iconic chimes at McGraw Tower will cap a series of events on campus this afternoon, with a 6:00-6:30pm set that includes Grateful Dead classics like “Touch of Grey,” “Ripple,” and “Uncle John’s Band,” as well as some Beatles and Paul Simon music.

Right before the chimes concert, at 5:45pm, Tompkins County legislator Dan Klein will read a county proclamation marking Grateful Dead Day in Tompkins County.

Tonight’s big event at the State Theatre features a special set of acoustic music by tribute band Terrapin Station, an official listening party of the newly remastered release of the 1977 show tapes, a silent auction, and special guests and speakers.

The book Cornell ’77 by Peter Conners came out last month from Cornell University Press, telling “the tale of the Grateful Dead’s fabled show.

An elderly woman was knocked down by a purse-snatcher as she walked home from Easter services on Sunday afternoon on Geneva Street in Downtown Ithaca. Witnesses say a heavy-set black woman grabbed the purse and leapt into a car being driven by a black man. The 88-year-old woman wasn’t seriously hurt.

Late the night before, another woman had her wallet snatched out of her hand by a black man. She chased him, and he pulled out the cash and tossed the wallet. She was able to recover the wallet, and she wasn’t hurt. Police say it’s too early to say whether the robberies are related.

Fire extinguishers weren’t enough to put out a fire on the back deck of a west hill house on Sunday afternoon, but the Ithaca Fire Department was able to get the Cliff Street fire out in about 20 minutes.

And nine different bands, solo performers, and DJs played the Electric Avenue Music Festival at WVBR, the Carriage House Loft, and Loco Cantina on Saturday afternoon to raise money for Loaves & Fishes.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will be this year’s Convocation speaker during Cornell University’s Commencement Weekend, according to the University. Biden will speak at noon on Saturday, May 27th, and the convocation will be livestreamed online and on local cable.

Ithaca High School varsity softball wins its home opener and tops Newfield in a 19-5 victory! They start the season 1-1 after last week’s loss at Maine-Endwell. Ithaca earned the victory with a powerful offense by scoring 19 runs off 14 hits. They return home for a game against Horseheads next Tuesday at the IHS softball field.

Nine acts from the Ithaca area will play at three venues in Collegetown in the first Electric Avenue Music Festival this Saturday, to benefit Loaves & Fishes of Tompkins County. The show is from noon-4pm and it’s taking place at the Loft at the Carriage House Cafe, Loco Cantina, and WVBR’s studios, all on Stewart Avenue.

Ithaca High School students were told to “shelter in place” after what sounded like a traffic accident turned out to be police serving a search warrant by stopping a driver on Route 13.

A man who told police he’d been stabbed on the Ithaca Commons late Friday night flagged down an ambulance in the west end for help, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

Cinemapolis is teaming up with Ithaca College’s Project Look Sharp for a one-night-only showing of the classic movie of George Orwell’s “1984.” There’ll be an interactive discussion led by IC’s Project Look Sharp directors, “about education, critical thinking and media literacy in the age of “Fake News.”

And the City of Ithaca has over three dozen cars and trucks for sale this week pursuant to New York State’s “abandoned vehicles” law, with auctions at three towing lots this Wednesday.

Cornell University’s graduate students voted earlier this week on whether to unionize, but the vote is too close to call. Cornell’s grad school dean says there are 81 unresolved ballots, which is larger than the margin between 919 no votes and 856 yes votes. They expect the ballot review will be finished within a month.
