The gang is back after the craziest, highest leverage weekend in Seattle Mariners baseball in what feels like several complete eras. Despite missing out on the playoffs, there is much enthusiasm around the team that blew it’s expectations and doubters out of the water en route to 90 wins. Yet questions abound. Is Kyle Lewis still the center fielder? Do the Mariners need an ace off the free agent market? Will the team actually spend? Is Abe Toro a starting player? Can we expect the bullpen to repeat such an immaculate season? We dig into all of this, with a healthy dose of reminiscing about the wondrous, improbable Mariners season that now lies behind us. The future is bright, and the gang is locked and loaded, ready to break it all down.

This week the Mariners have pulled into a tie for second place in the wild card, and the gang is here to break it all down. We discuss Yusei and the role he might have with the team over this final bend. We talk Jarred and his rise coinciding with the Mariners surge into contention. We give flowers to the bullpen that has ushered the Mariners into playoff position, and speculate as to who might be pitching in a potential playoff series. This week the gang (Mikey & Evan) welcome back new co-host Anders Jorstad to discuss the state of the Mariners. The gang talks Jarred Kelenic coming into his own, finally looking like the prospect of legend. They talk Yusei and what to make of his Jekyll and Hyde season. The gang tries to figure out what his contract situation means for everyone involved in the coming months. The gang discusses Logan Gilbert, and his continued evolution as a major league pitcher. They speculate about the chances the new Mariners front office makes a big splash in free agency, and how it ties into our feels about how this 2021 season has unfolded. Lastly the gang tries to come to some kind of understand about what these strange, often wondrous and improbable Mariners team ultimately means to them personally, both now as the finish line approaches and hopefully into a brighter future.

This week the big news is obviously the All Star Game coming to Seattle in 2023. Mikey and Evan reminisce about 2001, VHS tapes and Dave Neihaus. Evan refers to Kevin Martinez as Kevin Mathers for the second podcast in two days.

Today Evan James and Michael Ajeto are joined by Lookout Landing writer Anders Jorstad to talk Mariners. We kick it off with some minor league talk about Emerson Hancock, George Kirby and the young arms across the organization. We dip a little bit into Jerry’s new status, and how we expect it to influence the Mariners spending or not spending moving into the offseason. There’s much discussion about the short stop position, particularly Trevor Story and some of the other superstar names who might make sense as additions to the feeble Mariner infield. We look at some of the holes in the roster moving forward and theorize some ways to close those holes, and maybe which routes to doing so might be open. We look a little bit at the outfield and do some risk assessment on a very interesting but ultimately unreliable group of players. We take a look at the kids: Jarred and Cal, and preach some patience as they work through rookie struggles. Evan also repeatedly calls T Mobile Park “Safeco” and it confuses everyone; Shameful, disgusting behavior. Mikey and Evan forget that Wade Miley threw a no hitter this year. Lastly we eagerly anticipate the rise of Matt Brash: Relief Pitcher. Finally, Mikey gives a little tease for an article he is writing on ascending Mariner: Yohan Ramirez.

We look back at the trade deadline and examine how the roster is performing at this late stage in the season, and the dwindling but still flickering playoff hopes.
