November 20, 2020#30: Who said colonialism was ok? We did.As we approach Thanksgiving here in the US, I felt it relevant to address the elephant in the room: colonialism. I mean, it basically always is the elephant in the room, right? Nobody would be where they are today without it, for better or worse.. So here's me talking about why our ancestors were super chill with being colonizers, and why we need to learn from their mistakes. November 13, 2020#29: Eating Disorders and Social Media with Lisa Madison**TRIGGER WARNING** Y'all so this is a good one. You know I like philosophizing on social media, so for this I invited my COURAGEOUS Canadian sister LISA from the Fruit and Flourishing Podcast to speak on her ED recovery journey and the roles social media has played. It's a really interesting episode, and I'm so grateful for sweet Lisa bringing her Canadian accent and her ED wisdom. I hope that this episode can bring y'all some inspiration and hopefully some guidance if you need it!Lisa's insta: @theflourishingspacetheflourishingspace.caFruit and Flourishing Podcastinsta: @ivebeenthinkingivebeenthinkingpod.com Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. November 06, 2020#28: Book of the Month: DISSENTER IN A GREAT SOCIETYOK y'all... happy election week 2020 LOL!!!! This has been a wild ride to say the least, and it has certainly brought out the best in some and the absolute worst in many. To address this, I have chosen William Stringfellow's "Dissenter in a Great Society: An Indictment of Christian Complacency in American Life" to be our book of the month. Whether or not you're a Christian, this book written 60 years ago still rings SO incredibly true. I highlight some major takeaways from each chapter in this episode, and I talk a little about my disappointment with how we as Americans (and Christians) behave. I highly recommend this episode to those who are contemplating their ethical and moral obligations to society, and this book to those who want to dive deeper into that. insta: @ivebeenthinkingpodivebeenthinkingpod.com Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. October 30, 2020#27: The History of HalloweenHey there all you spooky witches and wiccans. This episode is all about the real history of Halloween- all the way back to the Celtic rites of Samhain- and through it's evolution into the holiday that we celebrate today. This episode was so fun, and it's like really really good, if I do say so myself. Listen while you're putting on your costume so you know the REAL history behind what you're celebrating- and how much cooler it is than you may think. insta: @ivebeenthinkingpodwebsite/blog: https://ivebeenthinkingpod.wixsite.com/ivebeenthinkingpod Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. October 23, 2020#26: Ghost Stories with AdamThis one is a helluva laugh, y'all. Adam is skeptical of everything, so listen to this episode to hear him say ON RECORDING that he doesn't believe anything I say. Also he doesn't think ghosts are real, even though he's experienced a poltergeist type of activity??? I don't get it. Anyway, I read a bunch of reddit ghost stories and he reacts- and then he reacts to a few of my own personal ghost stories. Do you think I'm just paranoid?insta: @ivebeenthinkingpodwebsite: https://ivebeenthinkingpod.wixsite.com/ivebeenthinkingpod Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. October 16, 2020#25: "The Raven" and Letting GoTo continue our spooky theme, this episode includes a reading of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" poem- an iconic Halloween tale- and a high-level explanation of what was going on in EAP's life at the time. Why does this matter, you ask? How do the events of his life relate to the meaning of the poem? October 09, 2020#24: Why are we so obsessed with true crime?Following this month's Halloween theme, this week we are talking about why we are sooooo obsessed with true crime. From controlled fear to wondering if it's something we are capable of ourselves- there's some good reasons for it. Plus, you wanna hear about how I thought I was going to become a serial killer at age 9? Y'all better believe I reevaluated my life real quick. insta: @ivebeenthinking Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. October 02, 2020#23: Book of the Month: THE 7 1/2 DEATHS OF EVELYN HARDCASTLEHAPPY SPOOKY SEASON!!! We are kicking it off with a psychological thriller- not a horror, not a ghost story- perhaps even scarier? This deals with some really intriguing stuff, like time loops, child murder and family cover ups. Listen to me discuss the *essence* of the book and some of the big ideas. No real spoilers, either, so if you haven't read it yet you SHOULD be safe ;)insta: @ivebeenthinkingpod Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. September 25, 2020#22: Is it hate, or is it fear?Have you every thought about how a lot of ~older~ people are so hateful? They're so often bigoted, racist, etc.- and we usually just chalk that up to being a symptom of the times they were raised in. And that's largely true I'd say. But I think that for some, there's more- I think that for some, it's less that their hearts are inherently full of hate, and more that they are scared of the status quo being broken, because they are quite comfortable. This episode is a little less structured than others, because I am kind of still working through this myself. I wrote no script and did no research- just musing. I hope it inspires you to do some thinking as well.ig: @ivebeenthinkingpod Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ivebeenthinkingpod) Learn more about your ad choices. September 18, 2020#21: The Mainstream Media is the DevilY'all, I don't know if you know this- but the mainstream media is the worst. Literally. Listen to this episode as a reminder for why you should always research, rather than taking the "news" at face value. Also, the news in the US is nothing like news elsewhere.
