Digital Creator, Aaron Wallis enters the ITBR to discuss episode 3: "No Bris, No Shirt, No Service" of the iconic “Queer as Folk” 2000 American TV show!

Aaron and Andrew discuss the taking back of offensive words by the queer community and how they no longer let insults affect them. Aaron opens up about how queer drug culture throughout this episode deeply affected him as he was watching the show. Then, Aaron and Andrew explore the pros and cons of having different gay relationships like being in an open relationship.

Lindsay and Melanie have a bris for their new baby Gus, which Brian decides to miss until Michael convinces him otherwise. Brian decides to crash the party and put his parental foot down. Justin seeking to regain the attention of Brian decides to make himself noticed at Babylon. Meanwhile, Brian's involvement as the father of Gus causes some relationship strain between Lindsay and Melanie. Michael attempting to continue his straight act, runs into a co- worker in front of the gay bars. Also, Ted finally gets lucky with a guy who he's been denying the advances of all night but ends up with devastating results.

Animation Director and Writer, Sage Cotugno enters the ITBR to discuss their new graphic novel series “The Glass Scientists: Volume One." Sage discusses taking inspiration from the 1886 novella “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” written by Robert Louis Stevenson and Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” in depicting gothic characters who have rather complex nuances.  

Sage and Andrew discuss the opposing forces between Sage’s characters in “The Glass Scientists…” between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as they both represent near perfect foils of each other. Dr. Jekyll represents good morals and Mr. Hyde represents evil ones. Sage admits that their adaptation differs because they display Dr. Jekyll as not all good but also not all bad displaying an “imperfect Jekyll vs this perfectly evil Hyde."

Finally, Sage and Andrew discuss the 2022 Horror/Mystery film “Talk to Me” where Sage praises the movie for being “more moderate…more secular” denoting the film's distance from traditional horror ghost style genres that follow religious affiliations. And, they also get into a riveting discussion about vampirism and all things "Dracula." This episode is for all who love queer monstrosity (shout out to Joseph Federico for this phrase)!

Andrew and his guests discuss Drew Barrymore’s role in the movie and how she had scheduling conflicts during the shooting. They also discuss possible queer undertones in the script as well as the possibility of a new installment directed by a gay man.

Hey, true crime friends! This week we will be discussing the University of Texas Tower Shooting that took place in early August 1966. Charles Whitman, an architectural engineering student and former US Marine, took the lives of 14 people and injured 31. However, this case is way more complicated than most mass shootings that have occurred since.

In this week's News Update, Joran van der Sloot- a longtime suspect in the Natalee Holloway disappearance from 2005- has admitted to her murder, and Cher has spoken out against the allegations that she "kidnapped" her adult son.

Aaron Hamburger, writer of "Nirvana is Here," returns to ITBR to discuss with Andrew his new book “Hotel Cuba" a stunning novel about two Russian Jewish sisters (Pearl and Frieda Kahn) who are desperate to get to America to make a new life. But once they are turned away from Ellis Island, they find themselves trapped in the sultry, hedonistic world of 1920s Havana.

Aaron opens up about the dramatic real-life inspiration behind his story which includes his grandmother’s immigration to America and her challenges with American law and security denying her entry/assimilation into the country. As Aaron explains, the inspiration for "Hotel Cuba" all started with his discovery of a photo of his grandmother dressed in male drag!

Aaron also speaks about the importance of standing up to antisemitism and racism and says “we’re all a little bit of everything… we have everything in us” asking us to find similar traits and commonalities in order to help us better understand each other. This episode was recorded before the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but Aaron opening up about his own family's Jewish immigration and liberation story speaks to the courage it took and still takes for immigrant families to "create a new future" in the face of extreme obstacles. May peace, love, and empathy win the day.
