James Gunn has "basically confirmed" that Brainiac will be the villain in the upcoming DCU Superman sequel, "Man of Tomorrow".[1] Gunn shared an image of the script adorned with a brain, hinting at Brainiac's live-action debut.[1] The film is expected to feature an uneasy alliance between Lex Luthor and Superman as they confront this "much, much bigger threat".[1] In various DC Comics and "Superman: The Animated Series" iterations, Brainiac and Lex Luthor have been enemies, making their potential team-up against Brainiac a compelling plot point.[1] Brainiac, one of Superman's greatest foes, has evolved from an alien to an AI, often possessing immense intelligence, and in some recent versions, was created by Superman's father, Jor-El.[1] Gunn may explore this Kryptonian connection, potentially even introducing Superboy/Conner Kent.[1] This will be Brainiac's first live-action big-screen appearance.
