Your Daily Prayer 🙏🏾 Numbers 20:11
Obedience can be hard when our emotions run hot. Take time to cool down, think, and then act.
FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: PEACE
Play a worship song or hymn that reminds you of God’s sovereignty. Let the music settle your spirit.
Today’s story recounts Moses’ disobedience in striking the rock out of frustration, instead of speaking to it as God commanded. It teaches us the importance of remaining calm and obedient to God, even when emotions run high, trusting Him to guide our actions.
STORY
Bible in a Year: Water Flows from the Rock
Scripture
But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.'
Numbers 20:12
When things are tense, we must not be overwhelmed and overcome by our emotions. This is especially true for leaders. Episode 47 of Bible in a Year is a turning point for Moses.
In the wilderness of Zin, the Israelites' journey is marked by a critical moment of need and a test of leadership and obedience. Faced with the community's outcry for water, Moses and Aaron turned to God, who instructed Moses to speak to a rock to bring forth water.
However, in a moment of frustration, Moses strikes the rock twice with his staff, contrary to God's command. Water flows abundantly, yet this disobedience carries profound consequences for Moses and Aaron: they are denied entry into the Promised Land.
This episode is a powerful reminder of the importance of obedience to God, especially when our emotions run high. Despite his closeness with God and his leadership role, Moses allows the immediate pressures and emotions to dictate his actions, leading to disobedience.
This story highlights that faithfulness to God's commands must override our momentary feelings or frustrations.
REFLECTION
We all lose our cool sometimes. But when the moment demands calm, we have to be able to turn it on – for the sake of others, our witness, and the world. Practice mindfulness today.
When life feels overwhelming, take time to pray, meditate, and focus on what you can control. Circumstances and other people aren’t in your control, but you are in control of your reaction and obedience to God.
PRAYER
And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
NUMBERS 20:11
Dear Lord, when I am weary on my journey to greatness help me to stay mindful that I do not move outside of Your command. When the weight and the pressure of those around me closes in, I will not be moved by the external pressures of others, but instead I will be moved by my internal principles of obedience to You. I will not allow anger and frustration to cause me to step out of alignment with my character. Protect me Lord from doing anything that would hinder me from stepping into my promised land. As I learn from Moses in Numbers 20-21, I will intentionally let his life story be before me as I lead and guide others. It will serve as a reminder that I'm my truest self and most effective when I live according to Your plan! Thank You for giving me stories and examples so that I can ensure that my life is a success. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾

DEVOTION
Based on Lamentations 3
This verse is a beautiful reminder that when we call on God, He draws near. In our darkest moments, when fear and despair threaten to overwhelm us, He is not distant—He comes close, offering comfort and peace. His response to our cries is simple yet powerful: “Fear not.”
God’s nearness is not dependent on our strength or worthiness; it is a reflection of His deep love and faithfulness. He hears every prayer and every whisper of the heart and reassures us that we are not alone. His presence is our refuge, and His words bring peace.
Take a moment tonight to call upon the Lord. Breathe out fear, and breathe in His nearness. Trust that He hears you and that His presence is your source of peace and strength.
A.C.T.S. REFLECTION

“You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.”
LAMENTATIONS 3:57
Dear Holy God, In my moments of loneliness, I turn to You in prayer. When the path of life seems weary and dark, when worry crowds out joy and anxiety outweighs hope -- Your love is still a tender comfort to me. The world may have deserted me but Your steadfast love has never failed. In my heartache, You respond with compassion and kindness. Your promises are sure and Your mercy is abundant. Your spirit is ever with me, comforting my soul and carrying my burdens when they become too heavy to bear. Grant that I may cling to these truths in my time of need, finding strength and courage to press on in your grace and peace. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen. 🙏🏾
PRAY FOR YOUR COMMUNITY
My prayer 🙏🏾 is that all Christians who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will work together to overcome the enemy and not work against each other, to work for one cause and one cause only, to defeat the enemy. Amen 🙏🏾
