JCast Journey

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay talks about the biggest news in the podcast world in the past few weeks, and probably the biggest news of the year (or any year)… the sale of Gimlet Media to Spotify for 230 Million dollars.

What does this purchase mean for the world of podcasting?

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay talks about a podcast he listened to years ago that decided NOT to have a website, not to make it easy for others to find and listen to it. He discusses the pros and cons of making your show as available as possible, and asks is there a point where it no longer makes sense?

As usual, at the end of the episode, Darone asks that you consider making a donation to JCast Network here.

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay talks about the thin line between trying to help and advise, and the feeling of being taken advantage of.

How much advice do you think you should give out, and when do you start charging for your advice? Does it matter if the person is calling from a small organization or a large wealthy one? But it feels so good when they reach out to you for your expertise! What to do???

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay asks one more time that you consider donating to JCast Network.

While Darone usually only produces one request episode during the Winter holiday season, this year that episode did not garner any donations at all. This was definitely a disappointment, not only because of the lack of monies, but also because donations are one of the ways, you our listener is able to express, your appreciation for and dedication to the network.

So, in these last 17 hours (depending on how quickly you listen to this episode), please make a donation to JCast Network at http://jcastnetwork.org/donate.

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay talks about the reasons that the JCast podcast stable has not grown a great deal over the past year or so.

Even though our growth has slowed, he is proud to welcome The Amen Corner, the latest JCast Network podcast. Although new to JCast Network, The Amen Corner has already recorded 81 episodes over three years, so take a listen, and get to know Brad and Steve.

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay again reflects on the changing landscape of podcasts, and his continuing desire to be where the “earballs” are. While Apple and iTunes used to be the only important place to have your shows, the times have changed, and now everybody’s “earballs” are on Spotify, which is why it was so exciting when Spotify finally opened up their network to any podcast recently, so we are excited to report that JCast Network can now be found on Spotify (although I can’t personally find it, but the numbers are there, so people are coming, and listening.

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay talks about the changing landscape of podcasts. It used to be that people needed to connect to their computer so it was important to space out podcasts, but now that people can download wherever they are, maybe it is not as big of an issue. Recently, Serial season three came out and the first two episodes came out at once and they BOTH got 4 million episodes in the first twenty-four hours, so maybe it is ok to post multiple episodes at a time?

What do you think? Does your podcast catcher only download the most recent episode, or will they download all available shows? Do you prefer to only have a single episode at a time, or would you like to get as many episodes as are available as soon as they are ready? Please let me kn0w by reaching out at http://facebook.com/jcastnetwork.

In this episode of The JCast Journey, host Darone Ruskay talks about the new series of podcasts by the folks at RadioLab, in their series More Perfect in which the producers have found 27 musicians to record a song each on one of the 27 amendments to the United States Constitution. This concept got Darone to think about what it would look like to produce an album with ten songs, one on each of the ten commandments, or if we really wanted to be brave, a box set with 613 songs, one on each of the 613 mitzvot in the Torah.

What do you think? would that be fun? Do you think we should try? Do you have ideas of musicians that you think would want to participate, would you like to participate? Please let us know, as we will not start this undertaking unless we are sure that people would get involved.
