The Minneapolis City Council is taking of a thorny issue….trying to restrict the sales of menthol tobacco cigarettes.   Why?  LATRISHA VETAW,  POLICY and ADVOCACY MANAGER for NORTHPOINT HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER, and DR. PHIL GARDNER,  have the health aspects of this discussion…and  RICHARD BOEHNEN, a local businessman who owns two convenience stores in Minneapolis has a different opinion….and its money related.    They join Jearlyn to discuss tomorrow’s open meeting.

Former Minneapolis City Councilman GARY SCHIFF joins Jearlyn.   For 12 years he was on the City Council, and is now running for his former seat once again.   He has seen the inner workings of the City Council working with the Police Department, the Mayor’s Office, and can comment on what has taken place with the police force during the tenure of Janea Harteau,  and he of course knows the acting chief, Medaria Arradondo.

Some of the brightest youngsters in Africa, have been hanging out in Minnesota the past few weeks, part of the The Mandela Washington Fellowship, hosted by the Center for Integrative Leadership at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and the Public Management Institute.  The Fellowship emphasizes fundamentals such as strategic planning, leadership, and financial management. Jearlyn meets two of these leaders, Abdulrasek Ejiwumi, Nigeria and Rebecca Kasika, Tanzania, to find out about their odyssey, and their attitudes towards Americans and our way of life.

Dallas native, MYLES BLAKEMORE, a trombone player, is joining Jearlyn from The Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, where he is spending much of the summer. But come fall, he will be in Minneapolis, after winning the Minnesota Orchestra “Rosemary and David Good Fellowship.”     He joins Jearlyn to winning such a prestigious award.   www.mnorch.org

Emily Albert-Stauning is quite the story……The 17 year old is not your ordinary teen. She is an Emmy award-winning actress who has her own charity program called "Hope For A Better Day", through which she has raised thousands of dollars for those in need within our community. Emily is also AP Honors student and captain of her nationally recognized speech team.  And now, EMILY has written and recorded a new song,  ‘Don’t Worry’ is a tribute to children and families served by nonprofit Crescent Cove, one of two children’s hospice centers in the United States. Crescent Cove provides care and comfort to children and young adults with shortened life expectancies. Emily Albert-Stauning Emily will be a senior at Eagan High School this fall, and joins Jearlyn to talk about her amazing run.
