Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast

After the recent election I kind of went into a little depression. I know not everyone felt the same about the outcome but I was personally feeling pretty down, like many. And I’m a songwriter, so I deal with my feelings by writing songs. I had an idea to make a quick solo album just to get the music out, because I thought some of them were decent. But I honestly just didn’t want to spend much time dwelling in that headspace (unbelievable, I know). I had the idea to instead just record them quick for a podcast. That way I could dump them out into the world and then move on with my life. Yeah. I wrestled with sharing this but decided it was worth it if the songs can comfort others in a low emotional place. I hope this can be a light to you guys. To everyone else, please go listen to another podcast. Haha

Songs:

“Bear With Me”

“Crazy for a While”

“I Mean It Mean”

“Love Will Stay In the Way”

“Truth Is Truth (No Matter What You Root For)”

My friend Jack Brewster and I decided to do our annual Best TV episode early this year to beat the rush of the holidays. In some ways it felt like an off year in TV, but in others maybe I just didn’t have AppleTV+. I would like to offer an early apology for my whacked out list. Haha I decided to rank shows by what I thought about the most and not necessarily their quality. I’m not a professional critic. Thankfully Jack was there to keep the standards high. It was fun conversation and maybe we talked about some of your favorites as well.

Hey everyone! I dusted off the trusty old podcast to share a LONG conversation with my Mossy Stones bandmate Joshua Irwin about the making of our recent 2nd album Crafted Out of Paperclips. We put it together despite a good deal of obstacles, including Josh becoming a father for the third time a couple weeks after the album came out. One could say the album itself was... *crafted out of paperclips* (pause for applause). If you would like to listen to the songs we talk about here (in possibly boring detail) they are available NOW on your streaming service of choice. Just search for "Mossy Stones". You know how to do that!

It's been busy where I am but I've been wanting to do a podcast about my new book, Wish It Were Sunday. In this episode I talk about the story and how it came to be for about twenty minutes, then read the first episode (28 pages) to give a little teaser.

Over Thanksgiving break my niece Kenzie came back on the podcast for the 3rd time (see also: episodes 23 & 83). This was an unplanned and unfocused conversation but we hit many important topics including high school, TikTok, ASMR, Magic 8 Balls, Gilmore Girls, and so much more. And keep your ears peeled for a surprise guest no one will see coming!

Congratulations! Christmas has come early. Clear your schedule, dump your significant other, and listen to my friend Jack and I once again slowly and methodically go through our top 10 TV shows of the year. How many will end up on both of our lists? Is there any hope for Suits? Who would win in a fight between Succession and The Bear? And most importantly: how do these guys have this much time to talk about TV shows?

My friend Jack and I got together to record this year's Top 10 TV Shows episode (coming later this week) and thought it'd be fun to quickly run through some movies we also enjoyed before recording that one. Think of this as a bonus appetizer episode before the main course.

I recently started a new songwriting project/band with my friend Joshua Irwin (Mossy Stones) and we just put out our first 10-song album, Luzita (NOW STREAMING EVERYWHERE). In this episode we dove DEEP into the writing and recording of the album during my recent week-long visit to where he lives in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The original plan was to record an EP of hymns Josh and his son Grady had been performing, but then we played around with writing a song, which turned into 2 songs, then 6, then 8, then 10. You know how it goes.

If you've ever wanted to hear about how a song was written and then listen to the writers as they tediously continue talking about the same song for an additional 20 minutes beyond that, THIS IS FOR YOU. Thanks for listening (and clearing your schedule)!

I just put out my newest book, The Leg End, and thought it might be fun to read the first section of the story to give people a taste of what to expect. I don't think I've ever done anything quite like this on the podcast before.

The book is available on Amazon. You may have to search "the leg end jeff grant". It will correct you, thinking you meant "legend" and you'll have to click the thing that says "no, I meant leg end". I've posted links in other places on the internet but I don't think I can do that in this description, sadly.

I got together again with my friend Jack Brewster this week to go through our top 10 TV shows of the year. You're excited about that, right? Thanks. This was a LONG episode with a few hiccups along the way but we made it! Please clap for us. Happy holidays, everyone!

What were YOUR favorite shows this year? There sure were a lot of great things to watch, huh?
