  • Jacqui Patton - Using Instagram to Learn about Communication

I met Jacqui Patton during the lockdown when she was (and still is) posting videos on a daily basis. Her videos are short, simple and to the point. I had never known a digital marketing agency that created content that was actually useful. They made me question why I was making videos myself, who are they for and what were my actual business and marketing objectives.

Once we were all allowed out, I joined Jacqui's networking group 'The Ark' where I met more clever, creative and innovative thinkers and entrepreneurs.

As owner of Ink Blot Creative, Jacqui helped me with the early stages of my business and continues to help me and many other business owners to better understand their customers and clients.

  • Radu Dan from the Kitchen Draft - A happy man

You don't need to be a horrible, swearing and aggressive person to be a good chef. Radu Dan is not like Gordan Ramsey at all. His Kitchen Draft YouTube channel is like a diary of the best kind of cookery teacher; really enjoying themselves as they share their love of good food.

Add into the mix, this chef's love of video making and his desire to create a successful YouTube channel.

In this interview we hear how Radu Dan knows he is only one year into his video journey but is quietly working away at making good content and growing his following bit by bit. His cheerful and passionate persona disguises his determined diligence.

  • Getting comfortable with Jason Rae

In this episode, we talk about Jason's time working at Channel 4, how he got there and what he does now. Jason is a very open and friendly guy who would probably try anything so to nail down exactly what sort of video professional he is, wasn't easy.

Starting with an interest in music production he quickly worked through the ranks in the edit suites of Channel 4 before moving back to Jersey, where after a stint at Channel TV, he started a family and his own business. With a diverse offering, which includes web design we learn how he, in moderation, loves it all.

  • Eddy Blampied & Tom Allan from Video Shed

When he isn't painting those instantly recognisable picture postcard caricatures, Edward Blampied is either making short films or he is sharing his shed with fellow film-buff Tom Allan. Together they make The Video Shed, a youtube series in which the two new dads wax lyrical about old movies and horror films.

In this interview with them both, we talk about the short halloween horror films they have made together, the limitations of doing everything themselves, how Covid put the brakes on their most ambitious project to date and how the Video Shed was, for them, a reinvention of what they want to achieve with online video making.

  • Katy Hall - Making sense of television in the edit
In this interview we deep dive into how television professionals make sense of hours worth of footage to create compelling stories and television programmes. Katy Hall is an edit producer, and as we learn there is a lot more to the job than popping clips on a timeline in a logical order and then sending the results to the transmission department.   In fact, this conversation only skims the surface of how vast an industry broadcasting is. It's a fascinating insight into the levels of process required in order to jump through the hoops to satisfy the various stakeholders involved with getting a show to air. We touch upon the relationship between production companies and broadcasters, a programme's format points, and just how vastly different the process is compared to Youtubing, influencer videos or indie film making.   Katy Hall | LinkedIn

  • Elliot Coll - That Retro Future Youtube guy

As far as I can tell, Elliot Coll is the only professional Youtuber living in Jersey. In this interview he tells me that his YouTube channel, is not a business and he doesn't even view it as a job. It's just something he does, he enjoys and has made him some money.

Despite how much he plays down what he has achieved and the work regime he is committed to, I think you will agree that this is a stand out episode of the podcast because it reveals a discreet intellect that is all too rare these days.

  • Philip Clyde-Smith - Remote Directing and Dam Busting

For someone highly experienced and of such good reputation, I expected a serious interview when I sat down the Philip Clyde-Smith. Instead, as this interview the professional film maker was able to talk me through his world in a playful and irreverent way. Phil values people skills highly, and those with a complete lack of ego but is also in a position to work with some of the UK video industry heavy hitters.
