Jahmyr Gibbs scored three touchdowns, including a go-ahead 11-yard reception with 2:25 remaining, as the Detroit Lions held on for a 31–24 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.
Gibbs delivered a massive performance, racking up 164 total yards (99 rushing, 65 receiving). His game-winning score capped a drive where Detroit capitalized on late blown coverages from former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s defense.
The Jets (1–2) fought back from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to tie the game at 24–all behind touchdown passes from Geno Smith to Jeremy Ruckert and Garrett Wilson, along with a two-point conversion to Sterling Shepard. Smith finished 31-of-37 for 321 yards and three scores. However, with a chance to drive for the tying or winning score late, Smith lost a fumble on a sack by safety Chuck Clark to seal New York’s second consecutive late-game collapse.
Jared Goff paced Detroit (2–1), completing 25 of 32 passes for 269 yards, two touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Rookie Kenyon Sadiq provided a spark for the Jets’ depleted receiving core, catching seven passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
