EP1 Graduation, closure, and new beginnings 关于毕业:结束与新的开始
大家好~ 我们的播客频道“甲鱼小虾丸”终于上线啦!
作为两个刚从乔治城和宾大毕业、即将迈入咨询行业的打工人,我们想利用这个暑假在上海的时间对过去的经历和想法做一些总结, hence this podcast :) Over the course of this summer (and beyond), we will be talking about many relevant aspects of our lives, including school, career, relationships, etc.
第一期我们聊了聊毕业的感想,以及回顾过去四年的一些总结~ We will talk about the sense of closure (or perhaps, a lack of it), our COVID year in Shanghai, our academic interests in literature & African studies that grew over the course of our college career, and finally, finding our own sense of connection & reconciliation with the schools.
Hosts 主持人
小虾:毕业于Georgetown,专业是国际经济,辅修德语和非洲研究

Highlights
“有些人似乎在上大学的时候就知道他们未来想要的trajectory, 我们反而都是在泥潭里淌了一些水的人”
“When you go into the world, there are two types of people - noun people & verb people. Verb people emphasize actions, while noun people would associate themselves with the names and labels like companies, universities, and places. While we all sort of fit into the category of noun people (by being a graduate from a prestigious college), 但我们也应该去寻找生命里的那些’verbs,’ 才能活得更精彩、更有厚度。”
“虽然我们现在好像没有办法完全放开生命里的这些nouns(在某些意义上,他们是社会上的一种通行证),但经过了疫情在国内的一年,通过和家人、学校以外的朋友们交流,让我意识到了这个世界是不拘泥于学校这些的。这也让我更好地成为了一个verb person”
”During freshman year - and I think this is a problem with most elite institutions - I was very overwhelmed by the ‘mainstream’ trajectory. Walking on locust, sometimes I’d feel like I’m in an industry that’s mass producing people who are all the same/devoid of individualities, who were going to banking, big tech, or consulting.”
“但通过文学我找到了属于我的、和这个学校的一种链接”
“在把大多专业课上完以后,我大四结束的时候终于可以花很多时间上非洲研究的课,也深深爱上了它 (& everything that it represents):他们的开放、他们的宽容、他们对于学术还有对所相信事情的深深热爱. That dedication and commitment to study something so complicated and still dynamically changing for their whole lives really moved me.”
