REASON 10 OF 10 ~ WHY ROMANS 13 IS BIBLICAL GOVERNMENT
Let me summarize Romans 13:
* Verses 1-2: Be subject to God’s governing authorities.
* Verses 3-5: God’s governing authorities praise those who do good and punish those who do evil.
* Verses 6-7: Pay taxes, customs, respect and honor to God’s governing authorities.
* Verses 8-10: Proclaims to fulfill God’s Law.
Any Christians who think Romans 13 is about submitting to secular government has defied the most important rule for scripture interpretation - DON’T TAKE SCRIPTURE OUT OF CONTEXT...
Christians forming the Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Compact, 1638...
Christians Fundamental Agreement of the Colony of New Haven, Conn. 1639...
Reason 9 of 10 ~ Why Romans 13 Is Biblical Government
Biblical Government Is Due Tribute, Custom, Fear, and Honor
Honor to Whom Honor is Due
Tribute to Whom Tribute is Due
Puritan Pastor Jonathan Mayhew delineated between God’s civil ministers that rule versus mere powers that rule in Romans 13:7:
Fear to Whom Fear is Due
Rendering to Caesar
CHURCH DISCIPLINE & LOVE ~ 2 or 12
Jesus & Church Discipline
Jesus talks about the church only twice in all the Gospels. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said: "I will build my church." And here in Matthew 18 Jesus instructs regarding church discipline.
Moreover, church discipline is the LAST instruction that Jesus gives in the Bible to all churches (Rev. 3:19-22):
"Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline… he who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says here to all churches.”
Now think about this. Jesus, the Founder of His church and the Head of HIs church - the ONLY instruction that Jesus gives for His church, and gives it twice, is for CHURCH DISCIPLINE!
Whatever you or your church think about church discipline, if you don’t think it is one of the most important subjects for the church to be taught and obeyed, then I can’t help but wonder how much such a church really respects its Founder and Head - JESUS.
CHURCH DISCIPLINE & LOVE ~ 1 or 12
God’s 3 Institutions Of Love & Discipline!
In the Gospels, the word “church” is only used two times. First, when Jesus said in Matthew 16 - “I will build My church” - and only one other time in Matthew 18 when Jesus was giving instruction for church discipline. Think about that. With all the instruction about church in the New Testament, Jesus, the Founder of the church, the Head of the church - the ONLY thing Jesus instructs for the church is for CHURCH DISCIPLINE.
Wife Directive 8: Saved By Her Children
“Women will be saved through childbearing”
What does this mean? It’s not talking about God’s gift for eternal salvation but in context...
Husband Directive 8: Marriage Honor or Unanswered Prayer
"Husbands give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered." (1 Peter 3:7)
"The bride of Christ!"
God is never indifferent to our relationship with others.
How to have a wife WANT to submit to a husband.
Romans 13: Submit To Biblical Government For Conscience Sake
The Apostle Paul Charges Christians to Submit to the Government He Depicts From a Holy Spirit-Convicted Conscience (Rom. 13:5):
“Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for your conscience’ sake.”
What makes a government secular is its rejection of Jesus as Sovereign King and His Law as supreme. This is the government some people declare Christians are to submit to from a Holy Spirit-convicted conscience. Can that really be right!
Christians’ conscience
Hate Evil
No Vacuums
Does Submitting to Evil Equate With Holy Spirit Conviction
Romans 13: It's NOT Secular Government Or The NT Is Inconsistent!
If Romans 13 is depicting a secular government, the Apostle Paul would be contradicting himself in: 1 Corinthians 6, 2 Corinthians 10, 1 Timothy 1, and the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 2:
Is it wrong to impose Biblical Law on non-Christians?
What did the Frenchman, Alexis de Tocqueville, write in 1835 in Democracy In America?
What about John Clark Ridpath, who wrote in 1874, History of the United States?
What did William Holmes McGuffey, who wrote the McGuffey Readers, teach virtually every elementary school child in America from the 1830’s to the 1920’s in describing America’s early government?
Church Discipline & Love
What affects every Christian
"To extract the precious from the worthless." (Jer. 15:19)
When we “extract the precious from the worthless", from experiences that were not consistent with God’s Word, you will not only understand righteous church discipline but will also see God's real love in church discipline! In fact, I think you will come to discover a whole new world in how God loves everyone and even YOU!
Here is what we’re going to be looking at:
* Three Institutions & Discipline
* Jesus & Church Discipline
* Holy Spirit & Church Discipline
* Romans & Church Discipline
* Corinthians & Church Discipline
* Thessalonians & Church Discipline
* Timothy & Church Discipline
* Titus & Church Discipline
* John & Church Discipline
* Abuses in Church Discipline

* Three Benefits For Church Discipline
Unity 6: Unite & Conquer or Divide & Satan Conquers!
"Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to You. Holy Father, You have given Me Your name; now protect them by the power of Your name so that they will be united just as We are." (John 17:11)
Now here is the conclusion for perfect Christian UNITY...
