First jobs are often summer jobs. This Job Story features a few of your summer job stories... and one of mine. I also unpack the boxes from my old job and try to figure out what to with all the reminders.

Job Story #7 was built entirely in Pro Tools and features on-the-street commentary from me and interviews with my Pro Tools instructor, Kiri, and fellow student, Daniel - AKA “Westside”. It also has a brand-new intro with Kiri on bass.
It’s twice as long as last week’s podcast but it’s worth your time, even though I hope to keep these between 20 and 30 minutes.
Please share Job Story with your friends. Job Story is on iTunes and SoundCloud. Still working on Job Story on other platforms.

Job Story #6 features audio from my first interview in over twelve years. It was a group interview at Apple and you'll hear my answers to questions about my last job and things I would've done differently there, etc. There's also some commentary from before and after my second Apple interview.
This edition of Job Story was assembled in Pro Tools. I even recorded some of the voiceover during my class at Manhattan Edit Workshop.

In Job Story #4 I talk with Kiran Gaudioso at United Way of Northern New Jersey. They spearheaded the ALICE Report. ALICE is an acronym that stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are people who live just above the poverty line, often working two or three jobs to get (barely) by.
Since the first ALICE Report out of New Jersey, many other states have commissioned and issued their own reports. The idea is to get a true picture of where things stand with decent-paying jobs in the United States. It's not a pretty picture. Despite a booming economy, gains are not getting to the majority of workers in the form of raises or bonuses or any other way. With 3.9% Unemployment (a figure in dispute due to the number of "discouraged" workers no longer seeking employment) you would think employers would begin paying people more. Not the case, unfortunately.

The first installment of Job Story features an unsolicited phone call to me from the Banker’s Life company. Look these scam artists up online sometime if you want to read some hilarious reviews of a horrid workplace.
I want to hear your job stories, about bad bosses and toxic co-workers, about horrid interviews and soul-crushing corporate nonsense, about climbing the ladder to who-knows-what and endless meetings wherein you wish you could use astral projection to place yourself in nature, communing with your friends of the forest.
Yes, Job Story will also have uplifting shit and advice from people who are good at that sort of thing. But it will largely document my search for a good job. What is a “good job”? One that pays more than the $40K all these jobs seem to offer. One that has a benefits package. One that is full-time and allows me to use all my talents, whatever those are. But I don’t mind getting “negative” on Job Story. I roundly reject those “Stay positive” types who would tell you to cheer up as they marched you to the gallows. Fuck all that. There are more than enough positive job and work podcasts out there.

Job Story comes to you from broadcast and podcast professional Chris Tsakis, with 30-plus years on both sides of the mic at CBS, NPR, SiriusXM and WNYC. Chris is a Creator, DJ, Engineer, Host, Idea Engine, Podcaster, Producer and Writer.
A legitimate "Jack-of-All-Trades", Chris also has a broad base of knowledge skillfully employed as a host and program producer. He understands the technical and structural process that goes into making audio content but also has the cleverness and creativity to put that knowledge to good use. As a host, he's smart, funny and engaging - but he has the capacity to see more of the 'big picture' than many folks who work behind the mic.
