John Dene of Toronto; a Comedy of Whitehall

John Dene arrives in England with an ingenious invention and a mission to shake up the Admiralty. His bluntness and unorthodox approach leave the officials at Whitehall bewildered and uncomfortable, especially as he criticizes the entrenched bureaucrats who, in his eyes, owe their positions to ancestral connections rather than merit. Just when everyone is getting used to his presence, John Dene mysteriously vanishes, leaving the civilised world in shock at the £20,000 reward offered for his return. Chaos ensues as Scotland Yard is inundated with letters and visitors, questions arise in Parliament, and the government grows anxious—except for Department Z, which remains unfazed.
