John & Gordy episodes

  • Slippin' and Slidin' (Hour 1)

John and Gordy are having a rough morning, noting that the roads are an absolute mess, covered in solid ice, with no traction, and they are upset that no salt or sand trucks seem to be out, suggesting “blame the weather people”. Producer Dom recounts a hilarious but embarrassing personal story of slipping and falling on the ice right in front of the Target store. They express disbelief and frustration at the Green Bay Packers for using a kicker who keeps missing, despite having a reliable backup.

The conversation then pivots to national politics, expressing anger and dismay over the Senate passing a bill, feeling the Democrats “caved in completely” without getting anything in return. They mock the politicians, saying they’re counting on a promise to take up the Affordable Care Act in January, sarcastically adding, “We’ll really have a real debate this time”.

Finally, they express outrage that the bill reportedly contained a provision allowing senators to sue the government for confiscating their phone records and worry about a possible nationwide anti-abortion bill being slipped in.

  • Mondays with Mary (Hour 2)

To open up our second hour of the show, host Pete Schwaba from Nite Lite joins the show to promote his upcoming movie showing on December 4th, The Godfather of Green Bay!

Dr. Mary Waldon, who John insists on calling “Dr. Waldon,” is welcomed to the morning show. She is a professional in psychology and a long-time friend of Kathryns. She and JAG discuss how the difficulty in maintaining focus is severely compounded by technology, as people are constantly checking their cell phones in an almost addictive effort to “soothe” themselves when they feel unsettled or anxious. Mindfulness helps a person tune into that inner rise of feeling dysregulated before reaching for something external, like a phone, to settle it.

  • The Mice are Taking Over (Hour 1)

The John and Gordy morning show spent the first segment explaining all the different ways you can trap mice in your house. John has a special way he does it, and Gordy doesn’t agree! Then on their “Idiocracy” discussion, the covered several political and economic stories. The most prominent and confusing announcement was President Donald Trump’s proposal of a $2,000 tariff stimulus check for every American, which was immediately walked back by his Treasury Secretary who clarified it meant various tax cuts and deductions.

They also discussed the need to resist cuts to the SNAP (food stamps) program, which they noted is part of the Project 2025 plan. John pointed out that the majority of SNAP recipients work, the program has the lowest fraud rate, and every dollar generates a significant amount of economic activity.

  • Donut Sugar Rush (Hour 2)

Jim Santelle joins the show to talk legal issues! The central legal concept that had John and Gordy so wound up is the Non-Delegation Doctrine, which is basically the Supreme Court’s way of saying, “Hey, stick to your lane, buddy!” The Constitution clearly gives Congress (Article I) the power to do boring stuff like tax people and manage commerce, but the Non-Delegation Doctrine says Congress is not allowed to outsource this job to the President. When the President decided to slap massive tariffs on everything, he was essentially trying to be the CEO and the Board of Directors, which is a big constitutional no-no.

The entire Supreme Court argument was essentially a three-hour constitutional time-out, asking whether Congress gave the President a blank check, or, in this case, a vague emergency law (the IEEPA) that he tried to use as a legal hall pass.

  • Fascist Fiasco (Hour 1)

To kick off the first hour, we had Gordy’s exciting new, enormous TV—so enormous it was apparently giving him brain cell-scrambling “radiation” and mesmerizing him! John hilariously calls out Gordy, suggesting the only reason people buy those big screens is because they’re “addicted.” The comedy continued as John gently mocked Gordy’s previous TV, claiming it wasn’t even “1080p” (the horror!) and was “not real clear.” The guys then had a moment of shared reality, reminiscing about the sheer heaviness of hauling those old sets.

After a quick weather check (cloudy and a chilly 29 degrees!), the show took a sharp turn into politics, specifically fascism, to give the audience a “little lesson.”

The main takeaway? John is utterly baffled by the “MAGA community” being convinced that socialism is fascism. The segment was punctuated by a ridiculous-sounding clip of a right-wing media host equating immigration to fascism, leading John to deadpan, “I didn’t know Obama was a fascist until I saw that today.”

John then provided a quick history lesson, trying to drill home the point that fascism (Musssolini) and Nazism (Hitler) were fundamentally ANTI-socialist and ANTI-communist. He pointed out the irony that the same folks who crushed labor unions and privatized industries (the fascists) are now being championed, while those on the left are being called terrorists for fighting fascism.

The hour finished on a high note of silliness as John began to struggle to articulate his thoughts, realizing it was because Todd was bringing donuts into the studio, and John was officially done focusing until he got some sugar.

  • Absurd Housing Prices (Hour 2)

Mike McCabe joins the show in the second hour to deep dive into the causes of the housing crisis and the resulting unaffordability. John & Gordy discuss how the debate is often “impoverished” by not talking about how the “ultra rich are screwing over the average working family”, and they praise the recent New York mayoral race winner, Mamdouh “Mamdani,” for focusing on making New York more affordable. They conclude by drawing a parallel to FDR’s assertive, experimental approach during the Great Depression, suggesting that a similar spirit of aggressive action and willingness to discard what doesn’t work is needed to fix the problem.

  • Oldie Toys (Hour 1)

John & Gordy are live in the studio today talking gibberish and needing coffee! The guys mention their favorite toys back in the day like Rock Em Sock Em Robots and Hungry Hungry Hippos.

After that “hard hitting” discussion, they go into the recent election victories of progressive and Democratic candidates across the country, highlighting a supposed surge of the “new and next generation” in politics. Mamdani’s victory is celebrated as a “big win” for the Democratic side. His speech is featured, where he asserts that if anyone can defeat Donald Trump, it’s the city that gave rise to him, and the way to defeat a despot is by “dismantling the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power”.

JAG also discuss the strong showing of other Democratic candidates nationwide, which they attribute to them being “great candidates”. A brief, recurring point is made about the misunderstanding of the term “Democratic Socialist,” which John feels is unfairly grouped with “Communism” by the opposing party.

  • Auracast: The New Audio Feature (Hour 2)

The John & Gordy Show is lively this morning as the guys are taking listener calls and texts!

The hour features Jim Lippold from the Madison Hearing Aid Center, who introduces the hosts to Auracast, a new wireless audio broadcasting technology. The technology allows users to listen to audio at their own comfortable prescription level without missing anything, while others in the room can listen to the regular audio. It can even work by plugging a small USB device into a TV or stereo.

Liz Johnston from Serenity Pet Spa also joins the show in the second hour of JAG. Lis recommends gradual desensitization for long car rides, such as taking short practice trips to get the dog used to the car. They should also prepare a “travel kit” including dog-friendly wipes for paws and faces.
