You’ve just tuned into a segment of The John and Gordy Show where the guys tackle everything from the weird world of commerce to infuriating national policy!
First up, they get a laugh out of the business news that Kimberly-Clark is buying Tylenol, which leads to a rant about how this massive corporation already owns everything from Kleenex to Huggies. Then, they dive into the absurd world of cashless commerce thanks to the Trump administration eliminating the penny. John and Gordy ridicule McDonald’s new policy of rounding up or down, and John goes on a passionate tear about how he never uses cash, while Gordy admits he only carries one quarter—for his Aldi cart! This segues into a discussion about how a shift to a completely cashless society unfairly impacts people who rely on cash or food assistance.

As for the second hour of the John & Gordy Show on this brisk Monday morning, the guys discuss the healthcare situation, specifically the Affordable Care Act (ACA). John expresses concern over the current enrollment period in November, noting that people don’t know what their final monthly premium payments will be. He describes the situation as “total chaos,” linking it to a perceived strategy by some politicians to foster instability and unpredictability as part of their plan.
The show ends with a mention of Trump’s slipping approval ratings and a comparison of his behavior to that of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.

Good morning Madison! John & Gordy start out strong with the Fabulous Farm Babe, Pam Jahnke! It’s been a relatively quiet stretch on the ag front, though a few notable items are worth mentioning. The Wisconsin Soybean Association put out a statement Friday about the ongoing situation with China, signaling concern over how trade developments could affect soybean exports and pricing here at home. Health care remains a key issue for farm families as well — the Affordable Care Act continues to play an important role for many farmers with children, offering coverage options that might otherwise be out of reach in rural areas.
They quickly pivot to talking about an issue with emergency SNAP/food share funding, expressing frustration that the situation is being handled last-minute.

On this week’s weekly best of John and Gordy, they continue their conversation with Dr. Tim Slekar from the podcast BustED Pencils on WMDX 92.7. The discussion focuses entirely on the Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Ryan Walters, and his stated quest to “drive out Marxism in the schools.”
Dr. Slekar takes a heavily ironic and sarcastic stance, suggesting that if students were truly learning enough about Marxism to threaten the country, they’d have to be proficient in it, which he implies is highly unlikely since they are already struggling with reading and math.
After those two segments, John & Gordy invites Sha’Ron Buie, the Associate Director of the Just Dane Organization, onto the show to talk about the ongoing work around community justice and reentry in Dane County. He discussed how data can drive smarter policy — especially when addressing racial disparities in the justice system. Sha’Ron reflected on his time at Just Dane and how lived experience is extremely crucial in helping formerly incarcerated people rebuild their lives. He will be honored at an organization called MOSES for his community impact.
We end off the weekly best of John & Gordy with Mike McCabe who joins the show today to talk about his most recent substack article titled, Time To Grow The F UP. He talked about adulthood means facing reality without sugarcoating it or giving up hope. You accept that life includes loss and struggle, but also beauty. Then he quotes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who talks about how both youth and old age involve limits — when you’re young, adults limit you; when you’re old, your body does. Kareem says aging means letting go of ego and accepting change instead of fighting it. John agrees and states, “Who doesn’t love Kareem?”

The second hour of The John & Gordy Show was a special Halloween edition packed with spooky stories, eerie laughs, and a few surprises along the way! Our guest Todd Michaels, host of the popular podcast Real Ghost Stories Online, joined us to share some chilling tales and talk about why people are so fascinated by the supernatural. His real-life ghost encounters set the perfect mood for Halloween week!
We also checked in with Rokker for aMax Ink Radio Preview, giving listeners a sneak peek at what’s coming up on his Saturday show. Between the haunting stories, great music talk, and plenty of Halloween spirit, it was a frightfully fun episode that kept everyone entertained from start to finish.

This week’s special Halloween edition of The Show with John and Gordy was full of spooky fun and fascinating guests! One of the highlights was our conversation with Pam Jahnke, who joined us to celebrate International Bat Appreciation Week—a topic that couldn’t have been more fitting for Halloween. Pam shared some surprising facts about bats, their importance to agriculture and ecosystems, and helped clear up some of the myths that make these creatures seem scarier than they are.
Along with the Halloween spirit in the studio, John and Gordy kept things light with seasonal stories, laughs, and plenty of tricks (and treats) for listeners (even though Gordy doesn’t believe in ghosts). From eerie fun facts to friendly banter, it was a festive episode that celebrated both the spooky season and the natural world’s unsung heroes—bats!

Still celebrating their two-year anniversary on the air, they talk with a long-time friend, Sly, on the phone. They reminisce about knowing each other from their early days at WMAD when Sly was working overnights. The conversation touches on the unpredictable nature of radio, with Sly humorously noting that two years in radio is like two decades.
The discussion then takes a political turn, with Sly expressing cynicism about the current state of affairs, referencing the tear gas incident involving a priest in Chicago and equating recent political actions to “Green Acres” meets “Stephen King.”
Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review as well as an attorney and former public prosecutor, joins the show. He mentions the importance of the upcoming federal court meeting with Donald Trump about the imposing of tariffs.

Happy two year anniversary for John and Gordy! With two years at Civic Media, you would think they’d get the hang of it by now. Yet, Angry Johnny still comes out every now and again and Gordy still doesn’t believe in ghosts. No seriously, we cannot thank all you listeners for turning on your radio dial and keeping us on air!
Tim Slekar, host of BustED Pencils, joins the show to talk about spooky Halloween stories to the fellas. Tim told them that teachers across the country are worried about their freedom to teach. He states, “That is why teachers are leaving.” In other news, John wants to politically activate the FCC (which has yet to happen) as well as have his own gold crown just like Trump. It’s a crazy one this morning let me tell you!

In the second hour of the John & Gordy Show, Mike McCabe joins the show. Author of Miracles Across County Q, Mike talked about his most recent substack called Time To Grow The F Up. In the article, he talked about how adulthood means facing reality without sugarcoating it or giving up hope. You accept that life includes loss and struggle, but also beauty and life. Then he quotes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who talks about how both youth and old age involve limits — when you’re young, adults limit you; when you’re old, your body does. The boys giggle about how Mike is the only race of sunshine during the entirety of the show.

Later in the hour, JAG talks about how the MAGAs are making the government shutdown much more painful than it needs to be. Stay tuned for the second hour as the fellas talk with Mike McCabe on his recent substack!
