Daniel shares his experiences growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia before migrating to Australia with his family.

I really enjoyed this conversation as Daniel and I both share a love for cars and I appreciate him sharing his experiences running a business in hospitality throughout such challenging times.

In this episode I sit down with Patrick Nguyen, someone I had known since he was a little boy of 8 learning Martial Arts.

That said, I wanted to catch up with him and one of the things I love about the podcast is that it is just a snapshot of where someone is at in this moment of their life.

A common thing people are always worried about is not being interesting or not feeling like they have achieved enough in their life to share this on a podcast.

In this episode, I sit down with an old martial arts training partner and friend in Alex Goik.

Alex is a really intellectual guy so apart from being great at Jiu Jitsu, I really appreciate his insights into China and Chinese culture, given the amount of research, discussion and investigation he has down as part of his studies in formulating his thesis on China's social credit system.

This conversation has also made me think about how cultural differences are also be driven by language and how our thoughts are influenced by the language we think in.

語言是文化的載體 (Yǔyán shì wénhuà de zàitǐ)- this very statement in Chinese alludes to how language is the carrier of culture, so when we think about governance in other countries perhaps we really do need to understand their language to gain a better insight into their thought process.

I also think this is why it is so important that we allow the freedom of expression, thought and allow open discussion to really review our ideas and perspectives.

In this episode I sit down with Renato Subotic who is the head coach of MMAFFT (MMA Family Fight Team).

In this conversation I could really sense his passion for mixed martial arts and in reflecting upon his story, Martial arts was a way for him to prove himself as a kid, gain respect but most importantly it brought people together.

I think the commonality I have found in great coaches (like great leaders) has been their investment into the wellbeing and development of their people.

We talk about a range of topics in this conversation from his Serbian parents who moved to Slovenia for better opportunities to growing up in Monfalcone in Italy, transitioning from athlete to coach, coping with losses and much more.

 

In this episode I catch up with Adi, a father of five, who delivers customer service by day but has been working on his streetwear apparel brand at night.

As someone who has always been passionate about clothes, I always enjoy hearing stories where people find things aligning for them to try and shift to things they have an affinity for.

In this episode I sit down with Brother Viknesh, a Missionaries' of God's Love priest in training.

I found this conversation to be really interesting as Viknesh grew up in Muttom on the Southern end of India. He was actually caught up in the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 and was fortunate to survive.

We go through his life in India and his journey through faith and even talk about Varma - an Indian form of martial arts that I had to go an do some research on after our discussion. I actually found it has links to Shaolin kung fu and many other styles as well, however that's a topic for another day.

In this episode i catch up with a training partner and friend - Cass Hay.

I actually didn't expect the conversation we had to be what we had - however this is one of the reasons why I enjoy this long form discussion format.

I'm truly grateful to share in peoples memories both happy, sad and other as we are all humans searching for that 'something' in our lives.

That said, I really appreciate the gift of having someone open their heart to tell you things they have experienced and so I hope everyone enjoys our discussion.
