Jon continues hour one by talking all things Atlanta Hawks with Atlanta Hawks beat writer for the AJC Sarah Spencer. Jon starts things off by asking Sarah what’s the difference in Deandre Hunter’s play last season versus this season, and Sarah responds by saying “Deandre Hunter used the layoff time to his advantage.” Sarah also said “I asked him that same question and he told me he watched a ton of film from his rookie year, he watched a ton of film on guys around his size who are really good at drawing fouls, and he just watched a ton a film to help himself get better.” Next, Jon asks about Clint Capela and how he’s been coming on lately. Sarah responds by saying “A lot of people forget that he was with the team last year, but with that nagging knee injury he wasn’t been able to really practice.” Also, Sarah says “Trae Young, Lloyd Pierce, and other Hawks said that he has helped us out tremendously in the rebounding category already, but he’s still nowhere where he is going to be, and obviously they were right.” Jon continues things by asking Sarah about Danilo Gallinari and the amount of minutes he will start to get. Sarah says “Gallo had back to back ankle injuries so I think the Hawks are just slowly working him back and letting him do what he can, so I’m not sure how much he will really play.” Sarah finishes his thought by saying “He played about 19 minutes against Milwaukee, so I think he will play a few more minutes than that.” Next, Jon asks about Cam Reddish’s up and down season so far. Sarah says that “It just seems like he’s rushing.” Sarah finishes her thought by saying “Some games he’s in sync and some games he's out of sync, defensively he’s pretty consistent, but time will tell if that balances out.” Finally, Jon wraps things up by asking Sarah if she thinks the overall three point shooting and team defense will get better. Sarah says “I think it’s tough to tell with all the moving parts due to injuries right now.” Sarah continues by saying “Trae started off slow, and Bogi started off slow, and now he’s hurt, As far as the team defense goes this team’s best defender in Kris Dunn is hurt and might be hurt for a while, so the Hawks have just been dealt a tough hand.”
