Jon Chuckery and Hugh Douglas spoke to Coach Gus Malzahn, of Auburn to talk about Marlon Davidson, the Falcons second-round pick. While Deric Brown got all of the attention at Auburn for his play this past season, Jon talked about how much of a force Davidson was at Auburn. Coach Malzahn followed that by saying that Davidson is a special player and, “one of the top pure football players to come through.” Hugh asked Coach if Davidson is better inside or outside on the defensive line. Malzahn said he thinks he could play both, which bodes well for the Falcons. Coach Quinn notoriously likes players that can play in different positions. While Davidson played mostly on the outside at Auburn, he would also play inside on third downs. Coach went on to say that if he had played TE for Auburn, he would be an All-SEC tight end for the Auburn Tigers.

 

One thing that stood out to Hugh is that Davidson likes the physical confrontation that is necessary to play his position and wondered if he was that nasty player in the trenches that the Falcons so desperately needs. Coach said that Davidson is super competitive and it does not matter what he is playing, he is trying to win every time. Coach went on to say how great of a young man Davidson is and that he will be a great locker room guy for the Falcons. With the addition of Davidson, as well as Fowler, this defensive line may be the best it has been in a long time. Falcon fan can only hope.
