Hi. It's Josh.
Today, I have more than 30 new minutes of TikTok Rants for you, edited together oh so nicely and posted on various platforms. It’s like I am a social media app matchmaker.
For your pleasure (or not, let’s see), here are three posts (plus two bonus viewer comment replies!) with additional commentary only available on the podcast.
They include tales of a family text message, cases for caring about others, dialogs about defending a friend (plus an angsty reply to a “Oh, get over it!” comment!)
I have included YouTube links below if you want to watch the original videos.
Love,
Josh

More about me:
I published my first newsletter before the age of ten, written using my next-door neighbor’s typewriter, copied with carbon paper, and distributed to mailboxes on my bicycle.
One of my first stories was an obituary of John Belushi. Strange for a ten year old? Yes!
My writing today is governed by deadpan sarcasm that goes granular on various cultural topics that I am deeply curious about. I hope you enjoy this sometimes snarky stream of consciousness.
I'm serious about not taking life too seriously.™

Hi. It's Josh.
Now that A COMPLETE UNKNOWN, the Timothée Chalamet-starring biopic of Bob Dylan, has been released, it’s the perfect time to revisit my deep-dive from October about my initial impressions of the first official teaser and trailer for the film.
Of course, at 2700+ words, I have much to say about what amounts to a few minutes of movie marketing!
With initial reviews in, I am actually very excited about the critical acclaim that Timmy is receiving for his performance (including the requisite Oscar buzz) because, counter to the initial cynicism from Dylan fans (including myself), I predicted he would nail this portrayal.
Speaking of being a Dylan fan, I also admit to and discuss being what amounts to a mild fan. My “Essential Bob Dylan” playlist is comprised of only 16 songs spanning 17 years! It’s all I need, frankly. Listen here and let me know if you agree.
Later on, I got so inspired from enjoying the Dylan tunes that I cranked out a quick poem of my own titled “The Most Mystical of Manners.” We cover a lot of ground in this episode!

Hi. It's Josh.
It is Christmas Day, and what better way to say, “Happy Holidays!” than for me to be in your ear with a Josh Bloom version of cheer.
I have been posting extended rants on my TikTok, which until recently, has rarely contained a video over 60 seconds long. TikTok is its own universe, unlike any other social media app, but it is not for everyone.
So, I am ripping the audio from some of my longer videos to bring you what I am doing there. Now you can still be with me without the indignity!
For your pleasure (or not, let’s see), here are four of those posts edited together with additional commentary only available on the podcast.
I have included YouTube links below if you still want to see the original videos.

Hi. It's Josh.
The shortcomings of Vicious Creature are not Lauren Mayberry’s fault.
The frontwoman for the Glasgow-based electro-pop trio CHVRCHES, formed in 2011, has seen much success with her band since then, so her curiosity about what a solo effort could be was sure to develop. Mayberry’s Vicious Creature is out now via Island Records.
She affirms, “There’s things I’ve never been comfortable performing or sharing with a band of men. As much as my time with the band has always had this feminist narrative underpinning it, a lot of my role felt like it was more about me trying to fit in than leading the conversation.”
It wasn’t until the final track on Vicious Creature, “Are You Awake?” that I got chills. Much of the rest of the album left me cold.

Hi. It's Josh.
I have been posting longer rants on my TikTok account, which until recently, has rarely contained a video over 60 seconds long.
I have been building that account for a couple of years now, and it has been an absolute pleasure to post daily (or several times a day) and learn things about myself and the world that I did not ever imagine learning.
This is to say, TikTok is its own universe unlike any other social media app. Is it also, frankly, not for the faint of heart. If you are there, please do follow me, because there is so much content that I do not post elsewhere.
Today, however, I have started to rip the audio from some of my longer videos. I have edited three of those posts together for your pleasure (or not, let's see.)
If you are not on TikTok and still want to see the original videos, I have included YouTube links.

Hi. It's Josh.
“Screamland” is the savory emotional center arriving at the halfway mark of Mahashmashana, the sixth album from Father John Misty (the stage name of musician Josh Tillman), out now via Sub Pop Records and Bella Union.
Loosely conceptual, as are most of Misty’s records, the album’s title is the Sanskrit word for a Hindu cremation ground.
The record represents the vulnerability between life and death quite well, walking a tightrope that risks falling into pretension but elegantly manages to make it.
Before the breakthrough of “Screamland,” the album could play as conceited to cynics.
Ultimately, it is sensational.

Hi. It's Josh.
You can learn a lot about a person of my age by mentioning Howard Stern. Surprisingly, he is still a polarizing figure, even after moving to the less overtly public space of satellite radio.
Even though his audience is smaller, his cache has blown up because he has become recognized as a master interviewer who can get the most ungettable A-list public figures on his couch.
Anyone with a misguided opinion of Howard Stern will never get far enough into this to discover that it isn’t about Howard Stern at all.
It is about Robin Quivers.

Hi. It's Josh.
I grew up watching the television show “Little House on the Prairie,” the characters of Harriet Oleson and her daughter Nellie Oleson, the defacto heels of the town of Walnut Grove, were my favorites.
The show was not comedic; it was a full of tragedy, one-hour drama, but when it was funny, the comic relief tended to come from these two characters, either directly or because of comeuppance played upon them.
Characters discussed on this episode:
Nellie: https://youtu.be/Ark2A_mkLdY
Harriet: https://youtu.be/TgbcKkWdt70
Dee: https://youtu.be/Dnh1ZvJn8fM

Hi. It's Josh.
I love that there are no definable singles on Songs of a Lost World, the new album by The Cure that is so accomplished at being The Cure, Robert Smith could listen to it and learn a few things about himself. He is likely doing just that, as he recently mentioned that the album’s follow-up is already nearing completion.
