As a result, the Bill, which was passed by Parliament on Tuesday, has now become a binding law which will be operationalized as a revenue measure across the country.

Former President John Mahama has accused government of deceiving Ghanaians about the cause of the current economic crisis. He said government’s attribution of the current economic crisis to Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine crisis is a “bloody lie”. Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, at a press conference in Accra last Thursday, explained that “the war in Ukraine could not have come at a worse time for the global economy.”

President Akufo-Addo has vowed to complete all projects under the Agenda 111 initiative before his tenure of office elapses. He said this is in line with government’s efforts to ensure high quality and timely health service to all Ghanaians.

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has said the government will save about GHC3.5 billion from the 30% salary cut of ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Addressing the country on measures being taken to curb the economic challenges Ghana is facing, Ofori-Atta said: “With regard to savings, in terms of our initial calculations of all of that [the salary cut] will be about GHC3.5 billion that we expect to be able to save.
