Judge Blocks Trump from Sending Guard to Portland; Gaza Ceasefire Talks Set to Take Place in Egypt | NTD Good Morning
A federal judge has blocked President Donald Trump from deploying other states’ National Guard troops to Portland. The ruling followed an earlier decision against using Oregon’s own Guard. Oregon and California officials condemned the measure as a misuse of the military, describing it as political theater. Trump has called Portland and Chicago “war zones,” while DHS Secretary Kristi Noem warned of organized attacks on officers.
Delegations from the United States, Israel, and the Hamas terrorist group are heading to Egypt for talks aimed at ending the war in Gaza. Trump said progress is moving quickly and warned Hamas that it faces destruction if it refuses to surrender control of Gaza. Trump said the first phase, centered on releasing hostages, could be completed within days.
With the federal government still shut down, a top White House economic adviser said layoffs will begin if negotiations fail to produce a solution. The Trump administration and Republican lawmakers want Democrats to make a deal for what they call a clean continuing resolution to get the government up and running again. Democrats, however, want Congress to extend Obamacare subsidies set to expire this year.
