Exploring symbols in the film 1992 Candyman

In today's episode I'll be analyzing and exploring the symbolism of the 1992 film "Candyman". 

Candyman is a 1992 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Bernard Rose and starring Virginia Madsen (Helen), Tony Todd (Candyman), Xander Berkeley (Trevor), Kasi Lemmons (Bernadette) and Vanessa Williams (Anne-Marie). Based on the short story "The Forbidden" by Clive Barker, the film follows a Chicago graduate student who was completing a thesis on the urban legends and folklore which led her to the legend of the "Candyman", the ghost of an artist and son of a slave who was murdered in the late 19th century for his relationship with a white painter’s landowner’s daughter.

The film stars Janelle Monáe, Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, and Gabourey Sidibe. Directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. It's also produced by the same people that brought us "Get Out" and "Us".  Provided via the film's website the synopsis is: Successful author Veronica Henley finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality that forces her to confront the past, present and future -- before it's too late.
