Sometimes we avoid hard conversations because we think other people can do them better, or because we think maybe we're sparing someones feelings by holding back - today Dr. Britany Baker (@dr.bortny) breaks down her stories of What Was Never Said: to the ex assistant that was her good friend and first assistant, and to the ex boyfriend who was a long time boyfriend where things ended
We chat about authenticity in relationships and conversations, projecting our feelings on others in anticipation, and setting boundaries - and why sometimes saying the hard thing and saying it early is ironically the most peaceful and painless way

Sometimes the stories that shape us the most are written by the words we never got to say.
Welcome to our summer series, What Was Never Said! Each week we'll be joined by the hottest trailblazers & newest kids on the healthcare block where they'll share 2 conversations they never got to have. Through these stories, we unpack lessons in grit, courage, resilience, and hear moments of heartbreak, failure, and the bounce back that inevitably comes. As we unpack why we avoid these hard conversations, how we grow from them, and what they say about us, we'll also gain appreciation for the importance of communication, connection, and vulnerability. So come along for the ride this summer!
First up we have Dr. Steven Lu (@dentistrywithsteven) - the 4am workout, Supra loving, growth mindset guru! He shares how being laid off from his on paper "perfect" job was the beginning of the rest of his life. He shares the words he never got to say to an ex boss from a hard associateship position, and to his younger self during times of struggle and imposter syndrome

If I could summarize the most helpful skill I've learned since graduating school and working in the real world as a dentist - it's how to turn a tense, angry, upset moment into a breakthrough for your relationship and progress with someone. This is something that even the best communicators / people with the best social skills still have to learn and be intentional about because it's not something you typically have a lot of experience with until you're in the real world.
Today I'm sharing how to use conflict as a tool to get deeper with someone by asking the right questions - the right questions can actually help you build a stronger connection, make progress faster, and get to the bottom of what someones really thinking/feeling so that they can actually hear what you're really thinking and feeling
