Dark Greetings Friday Nighters! As we enter into spooky season we thought there was no better time to discuss one of our favorite shows on FX and streaming on Hulu - What We Do in the Shadows! Originally a short film in 2005 that became the 2014 feature length film. Created by fan favorite Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement the series debuted in 2019 on FX and Hulu. Shot in a documentary style of The Office the series centers on 4 vampires living in a house together on Staten Island. Nandor the Relentless, Lazlo and Nadja, and Colin Robinson. There is also Nandor's familiar Guillermo in the house to round out the cast. It's crass, it's hilarious, and we can't get enough! Have you seen it? Tell us what you think! If not hear us GUSH (from a gaping neck wound) about how much we dig this show! Off we go - BAT!
Established in 1973, next season The San Antonio Spurs turn 50! To honor what we consider the greatest franchise in sports and sports history we wanted to talk about our hometown team! If you've never lived in a title town buh-buh baby you ain't seen nothing yet! There's nothing like the thrill of victory and yes the agony of defeat but you lose together and you WIN together as a city!!! The Silver and Black have given The Alamo City 5 NBA Championships. MVPs like David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Hall of Famers like George "The Iceman" Gervin, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili to name a few! We're starting our 6th season with our 126th episode talking about Los Spurs and our love for the franchise! Join us by telling us where you were when we won each title, your favorite Spurs memories, or your crazy downtown honking stories.
"Any of you fucking pricks move and I'll execute every mother fucking last one of you!!!" - Honey Bunny. Misirlou from Dick Dale & His Del-Tones hits an is now forever etched in history. Immediately you know what you're watching. "Get busy living or get busy dying. That's goddamn right." the legendary voice of Morgan Freeman as Red. You can hear it and see Andy Dufrense standing in the rain with his arms raised above his head. "Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you gonna get." The park bench and Tom Hanks resonate in our memories. Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, & Forrest Gump are just the big 3 from 1994. This year in film gave us so much more though! Clerks, The Crow, Interview with a Vampire, Leon: The Professional, Speed, Ed Wood, Legends of the Fall, The Lion King, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Natural Born Killers and the list just goes on and on! While we think 1999 is the best year in film 1994 is a close second. Join us as we dive in and re-visit one of the absolute best years in film of all-time.
"If it bleeds we can kill it..." One of the most classic Arnold lines in his entire career. And it comes from one of his best films the 1987 classic Predator. With Hulu's recent release of PREY we wanted to take some time and discuss our favorite Predator films and what the franchise as a whole has meant to us here at Just Another Friday Night! So whether you consider yourself Predator or Prey join us in the comments and let us know which film you liked best, least, and what you thought of the latest installment to the franchise! Oh yeah and one more thing GET TO THE CHOPPA!!!!
"We begin...in the Waking World...which humanity insists on calling the 'real' world. As if your DREAMS have no effect upon the choices you make." The week we met The King of Dreams and Nightmares in Netflix's latest venture the 10 episode series THE SANDMAN. Starring Tom Sturridge as Dream/Morpheus, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar and a host of other stellar cast members that bring the Neil Gaiman created series to life. Long awaited and anticipated this comic book adaptation debuted only a week ago and has been dominating Netflix. Long time fan of the comic series Double A and new fan of the streaming series CM Chuck wanted to be among the first to discuss the show. So say your prayers little one, don't forget my son - To include everyone. Mr. Sandman and Just Another Friday Night are bringing the drinks!
Serenity NOW!!! Yada, yada, yada, it's an episode about Seinfeld! One of our all time favorite shows to ever grace TV! Back in the time of Must See TV NBC delivered for Seinfeld to us for 9 seasons. Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer gave us plenty to discuss as they discussed nothing or so they said! In what became a pop culture phenomenon Seinfeld remains a show near and dear to many fans hearts. So call up Bob Sacameno and slide Kramer style into your seat as we have a CONTEST to see who loves this show more and if you don't like Seinfeld NO POD FOR YOU!!!!
GOD OF THUNDER!!! Thor returned to the big screen a few weeks ago and was met with mixed reviews - tonight CM & AA chop up their thoughts on Marvel's latest film outing. Additionally since we took a much needed week off San Diego Comic Con was in full effect and dropped some major Marvel news. Hear our thoughts on what was dubbed The Multiverse Saga and what it has in store for us!
In what continues to be quite possibly the best comic book show on television The Boys season 3 did not fail to deliver. We haven't talked The Boys since season 2 ended and we couldn't wait to discuss this one with all The Friday Nighters in The Friday Night Faithful!!! We called our first episode on The Boys "Herogasm" but it was not until this season that the reference came full circle with their episode 6 being titled "Herogasm". There's a lot to unpack in this one so we hope you'll join the conversation and tell us what you thought of THE BOYS season 3 in this very special Just Another Sunday Afternoon!
"Be running up that road, be running up that hill, be running up that building..." Like the rest of the world we are collectively jamming out to Kate Bush and Metallica's Master of Puppets. While Metallica may come as no surprise to The Friday Night Faithful - when it comes to Running Up that Hill well it's no secret that we owe that specifically to Max Mayfield, The Duffer Brothers, and the juggernaut that is Stranger Things! Now we could easily have our pop culture credentials revoked for not yet covering a single episode of the Netflix sensation BUT the love of the series has always been there and we're here now! As always spoilers within so if you are not caught up switch off now! We are about to rock out with Eddie Munson on the rooftop in this episode!
Happy 4th of July Friday Nighters! In what has become a sort of tradition for the JAFN podcast we wanted to cover an American story that represented America to us. In the past we've covered The Punisher tale BORN about Frank Castles' apparent deal with The Devil. This year we are using really 2 great issues by one of our very favorite writers Garth Ennis, who also wrote BORN. And it comes from CM Chucks' favorite comic book story PREACHER. In what really begins in issue #18 "Texas and the Spaceman" and concludes essentially in issue #50 "The Land of Bad Things" are tales of our primary characters father John Custer - one Double A's all time favorite characters and easily one of comics if not all literatures great dads. A United States Marine in Vietnam has some thoughts on why he's there and what America is supposed to mean. For a story written by an Irish author it is a tale that stands up even today. So before the fireworks and hot dogs, hamburgers, and apple pie crack a cold beer with us and let's celebrate the U.S.A. together.
