In this episode, Laurie and Claire are joined by Kaleena Bliss, a KAD who grew up in WA and is now living and working in Chicago as an executive chef. Kaleena shares her experiences navigating racism and identity challenges, how building relationships with other Asians helped to foster a sense of belonging and pride for her heritage, and the impact of adoption on her relationships as well as her journey of empowerment and personal growth. 

Kaleena Bliss developed a passion for the Pacific Northwest's ingredients early on. After graduating from The Culinary Institute of America, she built a successful career in top restaurants across Portland, Seattle, and Chicago.  She is currently the Executive Chef at the Chicago Athletic Association and Cindy's Rooftop. She has appeared on Season 21 of Top Chef Milwaukee and won several Food Network competitions. She was crowned the Champion on Food Network, featured on Chopped Casino Royale, triumphed on Beat Bobby Flay, and secured first place on the first season of The Beachside Brawl series, where she represented the coastal cuisine of the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, Kaleena was named a "40 Under 40" honoree by the Puget Sound Business Journal in 2022. 

Outside the kitchen she enjoys backpacking, foraging, and advocating for mental wellness awareness.
