Since 2020, she has served in the State Senate where she is the chair of the Democratic Caucus. The District 1 City Council race in Santa Barbara may be the most contentious within the city. Former democrat Alejandra Gutierrez is running to keep her spot; but Labor Organizer Wendy Santa Maria and Cruzito Cruz are both vying for it as well. In October, they were issued two violations by the California Coastal Commission for working on the pipeline without proper permits.
