Meet Your Actor Series - GM Hakim

Meet GM! GM Hakim (He/Him) is an award-nominated, full-time voice actor who does voice over work in eLearning, audiobooks, animation, audio guides, documentaries and docuseries, video games, audio dramas, corporate narration, explainers, promos, and more. GM’s happy clients include Meta, Spotify, Hellmann’s, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, JPMorganChase, Marvel Snap, Novartis, EF (Education First), Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, The U.S. Federal Highway Administration, and The American Council of Life Insurers. 

GM works from his professional home studio just outside of Boston. He studied broadcast and print journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where he had a weekly radio show on WAER-FM for three years. He taught middle school English, theater, and improv from 2005-2023, mostly in Montessori schools. When he’s not working in voiceover, you can find him writing, playing board games, playing guitar, leading Dungeons & Dragons games as a Dungeon Master, riding his bike, reading, cooking, playing ultimate Frisbee, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

It's Ladies Nite here at the Chaos table!  Season regular Co-Hosts Angela Cortez and Gaby Borja are here along with Host Jozlyn Rocki. The gals are hanging out, sharing their chaos and chatting about what's on their minds lately.  They discuss life stuff, mom stuff, business stuff and of course bring all the chaos inside and outside the booth.  Angela has wedding & bride drama!  Jozlyn had a NY agent on the line and bought too many bananas.  Gaby is fashionably late and broadcasting live on location from the soccer field...really in her car parked near a soccer field!  Then they play the fun round table game where they can only pick two Fall fav smells but Angela really brings tonights covo home with an interesting 'Would You Rather' question we all have to answer.  Let's just say it is frightfully fun!

Special Guest - Tracy Lindley

This weeks episode you will find your regular host - Jozlyn Rocki, season regular- Angela Cortez, guest co-host Ken Dillon and our special guest Tracy Lindley! 

We chat with Tracy Lindley and hear more about her life before VO, how she manages her voiceover business with life and family (she has four kids who are all voice actors too) and how Linkedin took a front row seat in her voice over business marketing. Then she shares how her passion for Linkedin, and the success it has brought for for voice over biz, has now lead her to sharing how to make this work for other actors as well.  Of course there's industry mom talk about kids in the booth, managing different personalities and how we allow our kids to choose their paths in the voiceover realm.  Plus we share some Chaos... What is the softest bunny in the world is called? Who makes the strongest coffee in Tracy's house? What's Tracy actually terrible at? Why is Siri speaking poop emoji's in Joz's ear? Why is there a traveling pigeon, in a cat cage no less, at Ken's house? Then we hold the fun round table question at the end - "Where would you rather be right now?"  Oh, and don't forget to show me the cookies!!!  Cheers to sweater weather!

Hey friend!  Just dropping in your ear to say Hi! & touch base, as we round off Season 6 and head into Season 7.  Yeah, we have been doing this for a little while now!  If you're NEW here, WELCOME! We're so glad you joined in on the Chaos!  If you've been here a little while, thanks for always coming back and listening in on our chaos, I mean conversations!  We appreciate YOU! 

This podcast has grown into an amazing passion project for us here on the pod and we are thrilled to be sharing our conversations with you.  Thinking back (all the way back to 2020) where this podcast was first created, then seeing how much it has evolved over the years...to right this moment, to really see what it has grown into to today...It is SO different from from when we first launched...Yet, here we are still having fun and still sharing stories!  

Our focus shifted a tiny bit, by focusing on documenting our individual creative journeys, from the very beginning, to share, grow, connect and laugh together through all the ups, downs and chaos.  

Along the way we created our Signature Series, which we lovingly call 'Meet Your Actor Series'.  This is a very special series where we get to highlight, & hold space for other actors, to share their stories, journeys & how they're navigating their creative paths in this wild world of being Creatives.  We also love inviting and bringing on Special Guests, who are industry professionals, to have conversations about different topics that are relatable, helpful and inspiring as well. Connecting is key and this is why we love to podcast and share these conversations!

Really, we just love a great conversation and hearing your story, because everyone has a story to tell and we want to hear it, all of them!

Take aways from our convo: I am many things, not just one thing.  Your job is not your identity. The voiceover community is one of the only fields, where everyone is up in each others chili pot. You have just one life, so go do everything you want to do. If you are interested in learning about how to do something new go for it and figure it out. Collaboration is the life force for creatives.  Find your Collaborative team, get help from those who know things you don't or don't have time to figure out. Actively do not limit yourself. Baseline, just try something. Worst thing to happen when you try something new is shoot that worked or shoot it didn't work, and now how do I make it work? Voiceover is no longer a career it is a just a business.  These days it is hard to JUST be a voice actor.  You are a million things, your job is not your identity...labeling limits your limitless ability to be many things! You do not need permission!
