I guarantee what you’re doing now is probably not what you dreamed of doing when you were younger.
On this episode, Keith talks about how being an entrepreneur is like regaining the career that we always wanted to have.
Amongst other things, Keith discusses:
– What he wanted to be when he was younger
– How we often end up in careers that are way off what we imagined as kids, and
– Why being an entrepreneur is like being a kid all over again.

Hey, and welcome to the career edition of 7-Figure Business Secrets!
Hey, so just want to explain exactly what we’re doing.
Is being a business owner a career or not?
Is there really an entrepreneurial career?
What’s Your Job Title?
So, if you’re like me, probably your idea of a career is working through a company and where you’re coming from, and, you know, you start off small and then you get the title manager and then director and then senior director or an executive.
And yeah, that’s the career path we’re all on, yeah?
But, when you become an entrepreneur, yeah, all that seems to disappear.
And to give you an example, I was asked there the other day, what’s my job title?
I don’t know.
I have no clue.
Whereas, when I was in corporate world, I knew exactly what my job title was.
It didn’t mean anything to anyone.
But that’s beside the point.
But, I knew what it was.
I was senior director, or what was it, Global Process Owner for Purchase to Pay, Senior Director.
There you are.
Gobbledygook!
(I just need to pull out to a road here. It’s quite busy, so bear with me for a second).
But yeah, that’s basically the career path we’re all on.
What I Wanted To Be
And then, yeah, do you have to give it all up to become an entrepreneur?
Well, I don’t know about you, but when I was 12, you know, between 8 and 15, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. And it wasn’t senior finance director, that’s for sure.
And you’re probably the same.
You probably didn’t want to be a manager of this or that or the other.
I actually wanted to be a vet, because vets were cool.
Vets saved animals and vets did amazing things.
They’re really, really cool.
My friend, he wanted to be a jet fighter pilot.
Growing up in Ireland where we have no jet fighters, he still wanted to be a jet fighter pilot, because that was cool and that was exciting.
And it was challenging and all that.
Another friend wanted to be a doctor.
Actually, no, he hasn’t become a doctor.
Nurse. Pretty close.
Another friend wanted to be a teacher, which was very controversial growing up, you know, no one wanted to be like the teacher.
But he did.
Have We Lost It?
Yeah, and what amazed me was back then, we all wanted to be something and be useful and no one, no one, no one wanted to be another manager in corporate world or a job title, yeah?
We all wanted to be useful and be valuable.
And somewhere between the age of 8 and what, 45, we sort of lost that.
And the more I thought, it’s a conversation we had with friends there lately.
And that was where the conversation was.
It was, basically, have we lost it?
And at the time we didn’t know what to think.
