This is Kelly Orchard’s Apple A Day. Sixty Seconds on wisdom, success and personal growth. When I was raising my family and operating a radio station, I quickly had to learn to lead with decisiveness. I had to make decisions that weren’t always popular, and I realized that if I vacillated or changed my mind too often, I would appear weak. That is no way to run a household or a business. You’ve got to make brave and confident decisions and then stick with them. You must be fair, clear and consistent!
Author Michael Ray Hopkin’s blog, “Lead on Purpose”, encourages you to ask yourself questions when making your decisions: “What are we giving up if we make this decision?”
No decision is ever going to be perfect, but when you lead decisively and discuss alternatives with those involved and trust the process.
When I had to make a decision in my family, I considered all those involved, my kids. How was my decision going to impact their lives? I discussed it with them and with others who may have had to make a similar decision so that I was well informed and prepared for the outcome.
Leading with decisiveness may not always be the popular direction to go, but leadership takes courage to make those tough decisions.
This has been Kelly Orchard’s Apple A Day… Now, go out and be fruitful!
