  • USA 250th: America's Forgotten Pro-Slavery Amendment of 1861

Discover a shocking constitutional crossroads that has been erased from our history books. Before the 13th Amendment that abolished slavery, Congress passed an entirely different 13th Amendment with the opposite purpose - to forever protect slavery from federal abolition.

Following Abraham Lincoln's election as the first Republican president in November 1860, Southern states feared his anti-slavery platform would threaten their way of life. As South Carolina became the first state to secede just weeks after the election, outgoing Democratic President James Buchanan and the Democrat-controlled Congress made one final attempt to preserve the Union through a constitutional amendment that would permanently protect slavery.

This forgotten amendment passed the House of Representatives on February 28, 1861, and cleared the Senate on March 2 - just two days before Lincoln's inauguration. With the required two-thirds majority in both chambers, the amendment began the ratification process to the states. Had it been ratified by three-fourths of the states, America's constitutional future would have enshrined slavery rather than abolished it.

The Civil War interrupted this process as eleven Southern states formed the Confederacy, withdrawing their congressional delegations and fundamentally altering the political landscape. This pivotal moment represents a critical fork in America's path - would we become a nation that constitutionally protected human bondage, or one that embraced freedom for all? Through the crucible of war, America ultimately chose the latter, adopting the 13th Amendment we know today that abolished slavery throughout the United States.

This fascinating episode reveals how close America came to a radically different constitutional future and reminds us of the power of historical turning points that shape our nation. • The amendment passed both the House (133-65) and Senate (24-12) with the required two-thirds majority
    • South Carolina seceded from the Union on December 20, 1860, explicitly citing hostility toward slavery as their reason
    • Outgoing President James Buchanan promoted this pro-slavery amendment during the transition period
    • The amendment was approved by Congress just two days before Lincoln's inauguration
    • The Civil War and secession of 11 Southern states effectively halted the ratification process
    • This forgotten amendment has been largely erased from history textbooks and classroom discussions
    • America faced a critical decision point between two competing 13th Amendments - one protecting slavery, one abolishing it

  • The V Verse - Victory Through Faith: Understanding 1 John 5:4

What does it mean to experience true victory? Not just winning a single battle or game, but complete triumph? The answer lies in a powerful verse from 1 John that transforms our understanding of faith and victory.

Join us as we continue our journey through the Bible verses A through Z, stopping today at the letter V for "victory." We explore 1 John 5:4, which declares, "This is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith." This verse reveals that through faith in Jesus Christ, we don't merely hope for eventual victory—we already possess it.

Throughout this episode, we unpack three essential characteristics displayed by people with genuine faith: unwavering trust in God's promises, committed obedience to His guidance, and remarkable perseverance through life's challenges. These traits aren't just philosophical concepts but practical demonstrations of faith in action that lead to experiencing victory in our daily lives.

Did you know the Greek word for "victory" in the New Testament is spelled "N-I-K-E"? This fascinating linguistic connection reinforces that Biblical victory represents complete triumph—not something we're still pursuing but a present reality we're already experiencing through Christ. We also celebrate this truth through the beautiful hymn "Victory in Jesus," which reminds us that our victory comes not through our own strength, but through Christ's sacrifice.

Whether you're facing personal struggles, seeking deeper faith, or simply enjoying our journey through Scripture, this episode offers encouragement and perspective. Remember that through faith, we aren't fighting for victory—we're fighting from victory. Listen now and discover how this profound truth can transform your outlook and strengthen your faith journey.

    • Victory in the Bible means complete triumph, not just winning one battle
    • True victory comes through our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior
    • People of strong faith demonstrate three key traits: trust, obedience, and perseverance
    • The Greek word for victory is "Nike" (spelled N-I-K-E), representing complete triumph
    • Victory is not a future promise but a present reality through Christ
    • The hymn "Victory in Jesus" celebrates this completed work of salvation

  • Jesus Loves You: The Words Men Find Hardest to Say

Why do Christian men struggle to express the simple truth that "Jesus loves you"? This profound question sparked a years-long musical and spiritual journey that finally culminated in a complete song and message of faith.

Ken Mercer opens his heart about the challenges many Christian men face when verbalizing their faith. With raw honesty, he explores the disconnect between knowing God's love deeply and the hesitation many men feel when trying to express this fundamental truth to others. The breakthrough came when Ken realized that while he had the chorus for years—"I want you to know that Jesus loves you"—every man brings his own unique verse through his personal testimony and journey to Christ.

The episode takes a powerful turn as Ken delivers an impassioned call for godly husbands and fathers who aren't afraid to speak their faith. "We can change the whole world in one generation," he asserts, highlighting the transformative impact of men who fully embrace and express their spiritual identity. Through a moving musical performance, Ken demonstrates that vulnerability in faith isn't weakness but rather profound strength. His song becomes both confession and declaration, inviting listeners to reflect on their own spiritual journeys and the universal chorus that unites all believers.

Whether you're a man struggling to voice your faith or someone seeking to understand the complex relationship between masculinity and spirituality, this heartfelt message will resonate deeply. Join Ken in breaking down barriers to authentic faith expression and discover how acknowledging "He is my God, He is my King" can transform not just individual lives but entire generations.

    • Reflects on why Christian men find it difficult to verbalize their faith
    • Explains how every man has his own "verse" – their personal journey to Christ
    • Emphasizes that while journeys differ, the chorus remains the same for all believers
    • Calls for a new generation of godly husbands and fathers to change the world
    • Performs his original song that took years to complete
    • Shares the revelation that each man's testimony completes the song's message

We need a new generation of godly, world champion husbands who will be godly, world champion fathers. We can change the whole world in one generation if we do that.

  • The Z Verse: Finding Salvation in Zion

Every journey has a conclusion, and our alphabetical exploration through Scripture reaches its magnificent finale with the letter Z. In this special episode, we unpack the profound meaning of "Zion" through Psalm 14:7: "Salvation for Israel will come out of Zion."

What exactly is Zion? We dive into its dual significance - first as Jerusalem, the historical center of Jewish worship and God's covenant relationship with His people. But Zion transcends mere geography, representing God's dwelling place and the spiritual nexus where heaven meets earth. The concept takes on breathtaking relevance when we consider how Biblical prophecy materialized in modern history. Before World War II, many dismissed prophetic Scripture as symbolic, yet following the Holocaust's horrors, we witnessed the miraculous reestablishment of Israel on May 14, 1948 - fulfilling predictions written millennia earlier.

The spiritual dimension of Zion resonates beyond Judaism and Christianity. After the Civil War, newly freed African Americans established communities and churches named "Zion," "Mount Zion," and "Zion's Hill" - identifying with this powerful symbol of liberation and divine presence. We celebrate this concept through Robin Mark's stirring hymn "Days of Elijah," with its triumphant chorus: "Behold He comes, riding on the clouds... out on Zion's hill, salvation comes." The children's choir rendition described will warm your heart as we reflect on how this ancient concept continues inspiring faith worldwide.

Thank you for joining this A-to-Z journey through Scripture. Whether you understand Zion as historical Jerusalem, modern Israel, or the spiritual dwelling place of God with His people, this Z-verse reminds us that from beginning to end, God's Word tells a coherent story of promises made and ultimately fulfilled. Search for "Days of Elijah" by Robin Mark after listening - it will bless your day as we conclude this special series with hope and jubilation.

    • Zion traditionally refers to Jerusalem, the center of God's people and His dwelling place
    • Approximately 25-30% of the Bible contains prophecy, including predictions about Zion's restoration
    • The reestablishment of Israel in 1948 fulfilled Biblical prophecies written thousands of years earlier
    • Zion also carries spiritual significance as the New Jerusalem and God's future dwelling with His people
    • After the Civil War, newly freed African Americans named communities and churches after Zion
    • Robin Mark's song "Days of Elijah" beautifully captures the hope and promise associated with Zion
    • The chorus celebrates: "Behold He comes, riding on the clouds... out on Zion's hill, salvation comes"

  • The Y Verse - "YOU" are my Hope, my Help, My Shield, My Deliverer!

Faith isn't found in rituals or traditions but in the profound realization that God isn't just a concept—He's a presence we can address personally. "You are my help and my deliverer" from Psalm 40:17 revolutionizes how we approach our spiritual journey.

This episode explores what happens when we shift from talking about God to talking to God. The simple word "YOU" changes everything. Unlike religions centered around inanimate objects or abstract forces, true faith establishes a direct line of communication with the Divine. When we say "You are my help," we acknowledge God as actively engaged in our lives—our helper, hope, strength, and shield.

The biblical concept of God as the "Ancient of Days" reminds us that while circumstances change, God remains constant. The same God who delivered people throughout history continues to deliver us today. To illustrate this beautiful truth, we reimagine the classic hymn "Oh God, Our Help in Ages Past" with interactive elements that invite you to participate in worship, transforming an old melody into a personal declaration of faith.

Whether you're feeling strong in your faith or struggling to connect, this episode invites you to experience the difference between religious observation and relationship. Join us in celebrating the God who has been present from eternity past yet remains close enough to hear when we call. Have you experienced God as your personal help and deliverer? We'd love to hear your story in the comments or a review!

    • The "Y verse" focuses on "you," emphasizing our personal relationship with God
    • God is not an "it" or statue but someone we have a direct connection with
    • The concept of God as the "Ancient of Days" shows His eternal consistency and reliability
    • Interactive musical element transforms the traditional hymn into a personal declaration of faith
    • Participation in worship helps internalize the truth of God's personal presence

Oh God, you are my help and my deliverer. You are the Ancient of Days, worthy of our praise.

  • The W Verse - "WORSHIP in Spirit and Truth"

Today we're exploring the powerful "W verse" from John 4:24 that teaches us to "worship in the Spirit and in truth." This seemingly simple instruction carries profound implications for how we approach God with both our hearts and minds.

Worship in Spirit speaks to giving your whole heart to God through the power of the Holy Spirit within you – an internal, authentic devotion rather than mere external performance. Worship in truth grounds this experience in God's Word, ensuring our adoration aligns with who God actually is as revealed in Scripture. This beautiful balance protects against both cold intellectualism and unfounded emotionalism.

The episode features a special bilingual worship experience, demonstrating how spiritual adoration transcends language barriers. We explore the beautiful parallels between English and Spanish worship terminology: "I worship you" becomes "te adoro," "Lamb of God" translates to "Cordero de Dios," and "Living Word" transforms into "Palabra Viva." Most importantly, we emphasize that God alone is "worthy" (or "digno" in Spanish) of our complete devotion.

Throughout history, God's people have faced the temptation to worship other things. From the ancient Hebrews encountering foreign deities to our modern tendency to unconsciously worship wealth, status, or comfort, the question remains relevant: what do we truly worship?

Join us for this enlightening exploration of authentic worship as we continue our journey through Bible verses from A through Z. Share this episode with someone who needs a reminder of who alone is worthy of our worship!

    • The W verse focuses on worship as defined in John 4:24
    • Worship in Spirit means engaging your whole heart and giving yourself fully to God
    • Worship in truth means aligning with God's Word
    • A bilingual worship song demonstrates how adoration transcends language
    • Key Spanish worship terms: "te adoro" (I worship you), "cordero de Dios" (Lamb of God)
    • "Palabra viva" (Living Word) and "digno" (worthy) emphasize God's unique worthiness
    • The Hebrew people faced the temptation of worshiping foreign gods
    • Only one God is truly worthy of our worship and adoration

Join us next time as we continue our Bible A through Z series with another powerful verse and song.

  • The X Verse: "I Will EXALT You" - Isaiah 25:1

Discovering power in the unlikeliest letters of the alphabet! Today we tackle the challenging letter X through the profound concept of exaltation found in Isaiah 25:1 - "I will exalt you and praise your name."

What does it truly mean to exalt God? This episode unpacks the rich theological significance behind lifting God above everything else in our lives.

We explore how the ancient Hebrew people maintained unwavering faith in one supreme God despite living as captives and strangers in foreign lands. Their bold testimony stands as an inspiration for believers today who navigate an increasingly pluralistic world.

The centerpiece of our exploration features Pete Sanchez Jr.'s timeless worship song "I Exalt Thee," written over fifty years ago yet still resonating with worshippers worldwide. We share both the English version and its Spanish counterpart "Te Exalto," demonstrating how the call to exalt God transcends language and cultural barriers. The song's simple yet profound lyrics reinforce Isaiah's declaration that God stands far above any other spiritual powers or priorities.

Whether you're continuing our alphabetical journey through Scripture or just joining us, this compact spiritual meditation offers a moment to realign your perspective and place God in His rightful position - exalted above all else in your life.

  • Supreme Court Victory: 6-3 for Moms and Dads!

A monumental victory for parental rights and religious freedom has been secured at the highest level of America's judicial system. On June 27, 2025, the Supreme Court delivered a powerful 6-3 decision affirming that parents have the constitutional right to opt their children out of school materials they find objectionable on religious grounds.

The case originated in Maryland when a coalition of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim parents challenged their school board's new "inclusivity initiative" that mandated material for children as young as four and five years old. One required reading taught that gender pronouns could change from "he-she to she-he or we, or they" – content these parents found inappropriate and contrary to their religious beliefs. Despite media mischaracterizations suggesting these parents wanted to "ban books," they simply sought the right to exempt their children from specific lessons that contradicted their faith and values.

What makes this story truly remarkable is the perseverance displayed by these families. They methodically pursued every available channel, starting with local school administrators, then the county school board, the state board of education, and finally through the court system, facing defeat at each level until reaching the Supreme Court. There, Justices Gorsuch, Barrett, Alito, Kavanaugh, Roberts, and one other formed the majority opinion that ultimately protected parental authority in matters of religious upbringing. The decision represents a profound affirmation that while public schools have educational latitude, they cannot force children to participate in programs that violate their families' religious convictions.

Have you considered how this ruling might impact educational policies in your local schools? This case reminds us that parental involvement in education remains vital to preserving both religious liberty and family values in America today.

    • Parents objected to materials teaching gender fluidity to children as young as four years old
    • The "inclusivity initiative" was implemented by the school board, not requested by students or parents
    • Media falsely framed parents' request as "book banning" when they only wanted opt-out rights
    • Parents persevered through multiple defeats at local, county, state, and lower federal court levels
    • The case united parents across different faith traditions in defense of religious freedom
    • Supreme Court justices asked common-sense questions that ultimately led to the victory

In the United States of America, more than ever in God, we still trust.

  • Pray for Maryland Moms and Dads - fighting their School Board - all the way to the Supreme Court!

Freedom of religion meets public education in a groundbreaking Supreme Court case that could reshape parental rights across America. A diverse coalition of Maryland parents—Christian, Jewish, and Muslim—have taken their fight all the way to the highest court in the land after being denied the right to opt their young children out of curriculum they find objectionable to their religious beliefs.

What began as a local dispute in Montgomery County has transformed into a potential landmark ruling on religious liberty and parental authority. These determined families have faced rejection at every level of the legal system over two years—from their local school to federal appeals court—before the Supreme Court agreed to hear their case. Their perseverance mirrors the "running the race" metaphor from Hebrews 12:1 that Ken Mercer references throughout the episode.

At the heart of the controversy is the school board's "Inclusivity Initiative," which introduced materials that parents found highly sexualized and contrary to their faith traditions. Critically, these parents aren't seeking to remove books or curriculum for other students—they simply want the right to opt out their own children, including those as young as four and five years old. The school board initially permitted these opt-outs but reversed course in 2023, citing administrative concerns and even going so far as to stop informing parents when controversial materials would be presented.

Several Supreme Court justices, including Roberts, Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Alito, expressed significant skepticism about the school board's position during oral arguments. Chief Justice Roberts questioned whether five-year-olds could realistically be exposed to certain content without affirming it, while Justice Barrett probed whether the curriculum was merely presenting diverse ideas or prescribing "the right view of the world." The Court's forthcoming decision will answer a fundamental question: Do parents have the ultimate right to direct their children's education, particularly when it conflicts with their sincere religious convictions?

Pray for wisdom for the nine Supreme Court justices as they deliberate on this crucial case that will determine whether parents can protect their children's religious upbringing in public education settings.
