February 03, 2024 "Today is tomorrow" | Groundhog Day
We just had to celebrate Groundhog Day by watching the Bill Murray favorite, Groundhog Day (even if it's a day late). It's a comedy full of laughs and existential dread while being stuck in a 24 hour time loop and the struggle to escape it.
We of course had to go with the cocktail (?) suggested in the movie, sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist. While it was certainly the best match to the movie, it was certainly a hard drink to swallow. Heavy on the herbaceous flavors and not as much sweetness as the name might suggest...

January 27, 2024 "If he gets up, we'll all get up, it'll be anarchy" | The Breakfast Club
This week we decided to stay in the 80's, but with a different vibe. We went with the Brat Pack filled, John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club. A movie that shows that deep down we all aren't that different, and the ridiculousness that is high school social structures.
We found an excellent beer to be able to go along with the movie. We chose Founder's Breakfast Stout, it is an amazing double chocolate coffee oatmeal stout. They say on the packaging, sweet and decadent, and they definitely are right. It was an amazingly dark, coffee flavored beer with some sweet notes on the back end. Truly couldn't have asked for a better beer.

January 20, 2024 "We can do a hell of a lot more damage in the system than outside of it" | SLC Punk!
We decided to keep it punk this week. We watched the 1998 ode to the 80's punk scene, SLC Punk. It's got punk music, vibes, energy and Matthew Lillard with a giant blue mohawk. If you're interest hasn't been piqued already, then this may not be the movie for you. Only posers don't like this movie.
Our beer selection was the very aptly named, Punk IPA by Brewdog Brewing. This beer totally lived up to the punk name, it's starts off a little bitter and in your face, and if you're not careful it'll knock you out. This beer is definitely up to battling out in the punk scene.

January 13, 2024 "Mother, we're watching The Corny Collins Show" | HAIRSPRAY
This week we decided to watch the 1988 John Waters classic, Hairspray. It's a very stylized look into Baltimore in the early 1960's and has a very star studded cast. There's music, dancing, big hair, and race relations all told in a way that only a master of cult cinema could.
Our beverage selection this week couldn't have been any more fitting, as we decided to celebrate the original Baltimore blonde by having Guinness Open Gate Brewery's Baltimore Blonde. When we saw this beer we knew we wanted to try it, we both love a Guinness and wanted to see what else they had to offer and we were not disappointed. The beer was amazingly drinkable and light, a bit of a twist coming from Guinness.

Kicking off the new year with another video game episode. We keep saying we're all around pop culture critics and we've mainly just done movies, so we figured it was time to do the other side of the 16-bit console war. Listen along as we go over some of our favorites from the SNES and why we loved it so much.
Our drink of choice this week (after a last minute change up) was Super Delic by Mirror Twin Brewing. We were both blown away with just how good this one was, super citrusy and just strong enough to help us feel all nostalgic about our other shared video game system.

Finishing up our Christmas movie marathon for the month and we end it on a newer title. 8-Bit Christmas starring Neil Patrick Harris and Steve Zahn. It's like the millennial version of A Christmas Story, lots of nostalgia and 80s era mayhem.
Closing out our Christmas ale selection for the month is Abita Brewing's Christmas Ale. They change up the recipe every year and didn't give us much to go on for the style, but it was good and we'd love to know more about it.
Don't forget, the game is back and our next beer is a clue for the next episode...

Keeping the festivities going with our Christmas movie marathon this month. This week we went with something a little more adult, Scrooged starring the one and only Bill Murray. It's an updated darker look at the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. We may have both gotten overly nostalgic (and a little tipsy) and talked a bit longer than usual, but it's just that good of a movie.

Our drink of choice for this week's episode was Great Lakes Barrel Aged Christmas Ale. We loved the regular one and we had even more great things to say about this one. We figured with a more adult movie we needed a drink that had just a bit more kick to it, and this definitely handled the job. If you need a little extra relief for the holiday season it is certainly the choice for you.

Another great Christmas movie for our December marathon. This time we watched another 90's classic, The Santa Clause starring Tim Allen. We follow along as he becomes an accidental Santa and stumbles into a world full of Christmas magic.
Another Christmas movie and yet another Christmas ale. This week we try something a lot closer to home (literally), we chose West Sixth Brewing out of Kentucky. Their Christmas Ale has certainly been the most festive one that we've tried so far. The cinnamon comes at you strong as soon as you open the can, you better be ready for some holiday cheer, because it sure is bringing it.

This week we keep our December Christmas marathon going with the 1970s tv holiday classic by Rankin/Bass, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. A stop motion masterpiece about Santa's orphaned origins and struggle to become the jolly fat man that we all know and love.
Our beer selection for this week's episode was Great Lakes Brewing Company's Christmas Ale. This one was a little more "holiday spiced" than last weeks choice, but it was subtle and still tasty. Certainly had us feeling that Christmas cheer as we took a look at this childhood favorite.
You better be good for goodness sake, Santa Claus is coming to town...

We're kicking off December and our Christmas movie marathon with the 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger/Sinbad holiday favorite, Jingle All the Way. A story filled with the perils of Christmas shopping and the lengths one man will go to get his son the perfect gift.
We are returning to our roots and drinking beer for the month and we kicked it off with a good one, Bell's Brewing Christmas Ale, a traditional Scotch ale with notes of caramel. A strong beer with a strong smooth flavor that will definitely have you ready to celebrate the holidays.
