This week we decided to take on our mutual love of martial arts movies by watching the 2004 martial arts-comedy movie, Kung Fu Hustle. This is a Stephen Chow project all the way through, which means written, directed, and starring. Follow the journey of a hapless moron as he accidentally stumbles into a world of kung fu masters, vicious street gangs, and bloodthirsty crime bosses none of which take themselves too seriously.

Our drink of choice for the week was maybe a little bit more of stretch than others for the connection back to our movie, but we've been anxious to do a martial arts movie and saw the opening. The Hustle is Dead, a West Coast-style IPA, is a collaboration between DSSOLVR and Widowmaker Brewing, and it was a slightly bitter (in all the best ways) that might kick you back on the first sip, but that flavor will just keep you going back for more.

This week's movie was another Pauly Shore classic, although one that gets a little less love than others, the 1995 court room satire Jury Duty. It's got a huge cast full of familiar faces constantly popping up. If you are a fan of court drama's and never gave this comedy a chance, you should really rethink that decision.

Our beer of choice this time was Gavel Banger, an American IPA by Taft's Brewing Company. We were both quite surprised by how hoppy this beer was, almost exploding out of the can. Once the bubbles die down some you are left with a very enjoyable beer with a hint of grapefruit. Final verdict... definitely worth a try.

For this week's episode we are talking about Snake Eyes. No, not the GI Joe spin off movie, the 1998 Brian De Palma thriller starring Nic Cage and Gary Sinise. It's a tale about a gambler and how he ended up at the center of a crazy conspiracy. It's a wild ride highlighted by hurricanes, boxing, and some of the Nic Cage-iest Nic Cage you'll ever see.

Our drink of choice for the week was to perfect to pass up, Snake Eyes, and Imperial Stout by West Sixth Brewing. We both love a dark beer and this was no exception. Gotta be real careful with this one though, because it's definitely a strong one and if you're not careful it could knock you out.

For this week we decided to go back to our childhoods and watched something a little more kid-friendly, the 1994 re-imagining of The LIttle Rascals. Based on the classic Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts, it is a mash up of timeless comedy with a 90s touch. Keep your eyes peeled for the massive list of cameos that the movie has to offer, along with the wholesome fun time.

Our drink of choice for this week, Little Rascal by Avery Brewing. It's a Belgian-style white ale with hints of meyer lemon flavor. It's an amazingly refreshing beer, almost like a shandy without needing the lemonade. Can't wait for it to warm up a little more, because we might have just found our new go to summer beer.

For this week's episode we decided to cover the 1970 comedy Hercules in New York. It is the first movie for Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was still new to the world of acting, and English. It's a crazy trip through 70's New York City filtered through the lens of Greek mythology and body builder physique.

It seemed only fitting to honor a strongman like Arnold with an equally strong beer. We found that in Hi-Wire Brewing's Strongman, a delicious coffee milk stout. As soon as we opened the can we were hit by the intense chocolatey/coffee aroma and knew we made a good choice. Truly nectar fit for the gods...

For this week's episode we watched a movie from the mid 90's that is set in the late 70's and focuses on a group of teens as they drive around looking for parties. No, we're not talking about Dazed and Confused. We're talking about the much more obscure movie, The Stoned Age, a 1994 proto-buddy stoner movie.

Our drink of choice for this week's episode comes right from the movie itself, some schnappster (peppermint schnapps, for the uninitiated). Much like our duo in the movie, we just had so much left over from last week's episode that we had to get rid of it. Luckily it didn't make us hork.

This week we watched Toy Soldiers. No, not that movie about the toys that came to life. This is the rarely talked about 1991 action movie starring Sean Astin, Louis Gosset, Jr., and Wil Wheaton. Terrorists seize control of a boys prep school and a ragtag group of students trapped inside help take them down.

Our drink of choice this week is...mouthwash. Well, not really. It's a special little cocktail the boys in the movie throw together to try and hide some booze on campus. That recipe, as quoted from the movie (and our post last week) is "four parts 100 proof vodka, two parts peppermint schnapps for that *mouthwash* flavor and one part crème de menthe to make it green" and you can definitely take our word for it, the stuff definitely looks, smells and tastes just like mouthwash. Maybe not the best cocktail, but it'll definitely work if you need to hide some booze in plain sight.

This week we're taking a trip back to the 70's, by way of the 90's. We watched the all but forgotten comedy from 1990, Spirit of '76, a comedy that follows a group of time travelers as they try to save the future by venturing through the bicentennial of the USA. Written and directed by Lucas Reiner, Carl Reiner's slightly less famous son and starring David Cassidy and Leif Garret, I'm sure you're already wondering how you never heard about this.

Our beer selection for the week was Founder's Centennial IPA, it was a delicious choice to help us navigate through the 70's and enjoy some great tunes and enjoy the vibes.

This week's episode is maybe a little more adult than usual, we cover the highly controversial and thought provoking film A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick. It's about an ultra-violent, catastrophic future in Britain, where gangs run unchecked and the government wants to control your thoughts. Many thought provoking topics to be explored as we venture into this infamous piece of cinematic history.

BrewDog had the perfect IPA for us to drink while dissecting this movie, their own Clockwork IPA that is infused with tangerine. It was light and refreshing, perhaps a good balance for the much darker and less palatable scenes of the movie. Not too strong so you don't have to worry about accidentally starting any of your own ultraviolence after having a few.

For our episode this week we re-visited Pauly Shore. The first time we covered Son in Law and this time we decided to take it back to the movie that started his movie career and made him a household name, the 1992 comedy Encino Man. Also starring the great Sean Astin and Brendan Fraser, and a whole list of other celebrities popping up for the ride too. It's the 90's at its best.

Our beer selection was made for this movie, or certainly at least inspired by it, Wheezing the Juice a fruited sour by Mirror Twin Brewing. That's right not only was this a Pauly Shore revisit, but also another episode for Mirror Twin too. This beer was amazingly citrus forward and easy to drink. With all the citrus, it is replacing Sweet Tarts as our fruit group as part of our 4 basic food groups.
