On May 15th, transition-year students from Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine, Kenmare won two honors at the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards, which took place in Dublin’s Royal Convention Centre.

The project was called “The Impacts of Unsustainable Pair Trawling in Kenmare Bay’.

Over 250 projects entered the competition from across Ireland - which recognises efforts to raise environmental issues and improve the local environment.

Their project won best Overall Senior Winners Award and scooped the top spot in the overall “Senior Marine” category.

Mary Fitzgibbon is a Ballymacelligott native who is running as an independent candidate in the Ireland South constituency. Ms Fitzgibbon is a registered general nurse and midwife; and a lecturer in nursing and health care sciences in MTU Kerry.

Independent councillor for the Castleisland MD, Charlie Farrelly, spoke to Jerry about a water main break in Castleisland that left people without water for 24 hours and his claim that the 3km of watermains that need to be fixed now will not be fixed in 2024 as Irish Water do not have the funding to fix is despite promises to do so this year.

Irish and Ukrainian people have a shared history of famine, defending a language, and fighting for our own identity and independence, the former Ukrainian Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko told the Killarney Economic Conference.

The Kenmare Community Care Area Profile Operational & Opportunities for Development Report is to be launched, and it will focus on the long-term plan for older people living in Kenmare.

The Kerry Road Safety Working Together Group, made up of the Road Safety Authority, Gardaí, Kerry County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Ambulance Service have launched a multi-agency plan aimed at reducing road deaths and promoting road safety.
