International experts have praised palliative care in Kerry in a new report stating that services in this county could be used as a template nationally. HSE Cork/Kerry Community Healthcare commissioned the report, with the objective of learning from the development of palliative care services in Kerry. Jerry spoke to Dr Patricia Sheahan, clinical lead for Kerry Specialist Palliative Care Service, Michael Fitzgerald, Kerry Hospice Foundation volunteer, and one of the report’s authors, Dr Edelweiss Aldasoro, senior researcher at the International Federation of Integrated Care. Many listeners shared their experiences including Cathal Walshe whose late wife June was cared for by the service.
