Now to your 17 crime watch - and the investigation into a sexual assault that happened on the main campus of Bakersfield College Monday night.
Officials suspect a masked homeless person attacked and fondled a female student in a bathroom... the same bathroom where another sexual assault happened in 2017.
17's Jenny Huh reports.
Firefighters are making signifcant progress in the battle to contain the *post fire* burning in l-a and ventura counties. The fire started saturday next to the 5 freeway near gorman and burned dozens of cars at an auto repair business.
The fire has scorched more than 15-thousand-600 acres.
But, this morning the fire is 39-percent contained.
L-a county firefighters say their main challenges are the dry conditions... Low humidity... And the high winds... Which can send embers flying more than a mile away.
Some homes remain threatened.
The cause is under investigation.

An hours long standoff in southeast Bakersfield has come to an end. It all happened at a home on South Haley Street.
Police say a man with a knife was threatening to kill his girlfriend.
Officers say the woman was able to safely escape.
But, the boyfriend, barricaded himself inside and refused to come out.
After several hours of trying to get the suspect to surrender, the SWAT team went inside the home and arrested the man.
He was faces numerous charges, including domestic violence.
An investigation is underway this morning after a person was hit and killed yesterday by a Bakersfield Police officer.
BPD says two officers were responding to a call for service in one vehicle, but the vehicle's overhead emergency lights and siren were off.
17's Mikhala Armstrong reports.
Now for the latest on the wind-driven Post Fire.
Nearly 1,700 firefighters are battling the raging flames in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. At last report, the Post fire has burned more than 15,600 acres and is 20 percent contained.
The massive brush fire started saturday afternoon behind the McDonald's in Gorman.
The flames quickly spread to nearby vehicles in an auto body shop sending smoke throughout the area miles away.
The post fire has forced about 1,200 people to evacuate from the hungry valley state vehicular recreation area.
Evacuation warnings are also in place for areas south of pyramid lake.
More details are emerging this morning from a crash this weekend that sent one vehicle through the wall of an East Bakersfield bar. Stella's Sandtrap is temporarily closed after a black sedan crashed into another vehicle sending it through a wall.
Officers say it happened after the driver fled from a traffic stop Sunday morning near Mount Vernon and Niles streets.
Bar owner Jimmy Browder is left boarding up the walls of Stella's Sandtrap. According to BPD, the vehicle being chased crashed into a parked car at the bar and pushed it through the wall striking 3 patrons.
Two had minor injuries, but a third customer was transported to the hospital for pain.
Her status is unknown.
The driver, 22-year-old Manuel Gonzalez, was transported to Kern Medical with non-life threatening injuries.
He was later transported and booked into the Kern County Jail for charges including evading police and other traffic related offenses.
Browder said Stella's Sandtrap will remain closed with no estimated time of reopening.

As most areas of Kern County remain under a Red Flag warning, a massive fire continues to burn just south of the Grapevine. It's being called the Post Fire. This is what many people witnessed as they drove over Tejon Pass. The wind-driven fire ignited Saturday and quickly ran up the mountainside. This morning -- more than 14-thousand acres haved burned and it's only 2-percent contained. Two commercial properties have BEEN DESTROYED from the fire... And air quality warnings have been issued across the region. An LA firefighter explains how challenging the Post fire is to knock down.
Tulare police are releasing details from a 2 month-long illegal drug sales and gun possession investigation. Two shotguns, four rifles, five handguns, 150 pounds of liquid Codeine, 200 pounds of Marijuana and concentrated cannabis, Psilocybin mushrooms, Ecstasy, a Hash Oil Lab, and ammunition and cash were seized in Tulare and Goshen. 25-year-old Thomas Alexander Browning of Goshen , 32-year-old Dominque Davone Eldridge of Tulare, 31-year-old Alisa Rachel Lewis of Tulare and 30-year-old Marquis Loring of Tulare were arrested. They face charges including: possession of an assault weapon, operating a drug house, child endangerment and conspiracy to commit a crime.Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Tulare County Sheriff's Office at 559-733-6218.

Prosecutors have brought charges against the man police were chasing when a BPD patrol vehicle slammed into *different* car -- killing a man and seriously injuring a woman. That crash happened last year at the intersection of South Vineland and Muller Roads.
Court documents say 23-year-old Michael Stephens Jr. led police on a high-speed chase but the vehicle became disabled, and he was taken into custody.
More than a mile away -- former officer Ricardo Robles crashed while responding to assist in that chase.
It's alleged he drove more than 100 miles per hour — without his overhead lights and siren on — shortly before running a stop sign and plowing into a Honda Accord.
The Honda's driver, Mario Lares, died at the scene. 17 News has learned Stephens is now charged with vehicular manslaughter, evading a peace officer causing death and other offenses.
Robles -- who is also charged with manslaughter -- has pleaded not guilty.
a bizarre scene that played out overnight in Oildale.
A shirtless man in a standoff with deputies... while standing on the roof of a home. It shows the barefoot, shirtless man standing on a house while deputies below try to talk him down.
This all happening on Rockwood Avenue and Manor Street just before midnight.
He eventually comes down and is taken into custody.
We reached out to the Kern County Sheriff's Office to learn more, but have not heard back.
New video out this morning shows a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store in Sunnyvale.
A group of about 20 suspects ransacked the store yesterday afternoon.
They smashed display cases with hammers before taking off with an unknown amount of jewelry.
The suspects fled in several vehicles before officers arrived.
Five suspects were later arrested following police pursuits.
They face various charges, including armed robbery, felony vehicle evasion, resisting arrest, burglary and vandalism
A bill that would prohibit schools from notifying parents if their children identify as transgender or LGBTQ... Is now one step closer to becoming law. That's because the State Senate overwhelmingly passed it yesterday.
A-B 19-55 would prohibit school districts from enforcing and implementing LGBTQ notification policies and would forbid teachers from outing children to their parents unless the child gives permission.
Supporters of the bill say kids could suffer emotionally and consider suicide if parents are unaccepting. The bill now advances to the assembly education committee.

The state agency in charge of certifying California law enforcement officers met yesterday in West Sacramento to decide the professional future of a former Kern County Sheriff's lieutenant.
David Hubbard, fired in 2022 by the Sheriff's Office and now an employee of the Kern County District Attorney's Office, was facing his permanent decertification as a peace officer.
17's Robert Price was there and attended a hearing of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, or POST.
He files this report.
A salary increase for the Superintendent at Greenfield Union School District is stirring up a heated discussion online. Many say the money should have gone to teachers or even students, instead. At last night's district board meeting, the issue was not a topic of discussion, however, we spoke with those who attended the meeting on both sides of the issue. Superintendent Ramon Hendrix began his post in 2017, after serving on the board of trustees for eight years.
When he took the position, according to Transparent California, Hendrix's first reported salary in 2018 was more than $214,000 with pay and benefits.
That was bumped up to $250,000 a few years later.
Now under the new contract, Hendrix is set to receive around $330,000 with a more than 7,000 dollar increase in each salary tier. On that same salary schedule, a year-round teacher would begin at around $47,000 and continue to move up to around $61,000, seeing a nearly 15-hundred dollar increase each salary tier.
Yesterday, protesters and counterprotesters took to the Kern County Superior Court... ahead of a hearing on unionization for farm workers.
The back and forth between UFW and Wonderful has grown messier... but at its core... it's about unionizing and how easy joining one should be. Last year... California started a new union authorization method called a card check law. If a *majority* of employees sign an authorization card... *all* employees become part of a union. That's why Wonderful Nurseries and the UFW have been clashing now... for months.
The California Agricultural Labor Relations Board authorized UFW to represent Wonderful workers... saying a majority signed on.
But Wonderful and nearly 150 workers allege they were tricked by the UFW into signing a card. Now... Wonderful has filed a lawsuit against the ALRB... challenging the card check law itself. While there was no ruling during yesterday's three-hour hearing... the judge says he'll also decide if the hearings between Wonderful and the UFW continue... while the future of the card check law itself is debated.

An hours long standoff in northeast Bakersfield came to an end late last night. Bakersfield police were called to the six-thousand block of Hill Dale Court around 6 p.m. for a domestic violence incident.
When they arrived, officers were able to get a woman and her children safely out of the home.
But, BPD says the suspect, 30-year-old Paul McCormack refused to leave and made threats to the officers.
The SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called out and a couple of hours later, they made entry into the home and arrested McCormack.
He was booked into Kern County jail on numerous charges including domestic violence, child endangerment, and violating a restraining order
A woman who stands accused of killing a child outside an Ohio grocery store, says she killed before...here in Bakersfield 32-year-old Bionca Ellis pleaded not guilty to all seven of her charges, including murder, at her arraignment Monday.
Police say the stabbing appears to have been a random attack.
According to court records, Ellis told police that a few months ago, she killed a woman in Bakersfield... and dumped the body in an unknown area, possibly near a river.
We reached out to the Bakersfield Police Department about the possible murder, and a spokesperson said investigators looked into her claims, and the information was not consistent with any unsolved homicides.
Kern County Sheriff's office is searching for a man wanted for a sexual assault that happened in the parking lot of the Kern County courthouse on Truxtun Avenue around 8:30 in the morning last Wednesday.
He was last seen wearing this blue shirt, blue hat and khaki pants.

A brush fire that prompted evacuations at the Bakersfield Amazon facility - is out tonight.
The fire started around 3 p.m. on James Road near Meadows Field Airport.
The fire grew to 100 acres and, at one point, threatened nearby structures.
But, Kern County firefighters were able to keep it from spreading and began mopping up a couple of hours later.

Firefighters were busy once again last night, with a vegetation Fire along Truxtun Avenue. This fire started just before 6 p.m. near Empire Drive.
If you were driving in the area at the time, you no doubt saw a lot of smoke from the flames.
Crews were able to get it knocked down quickly.
No word on how it started or how much brush burned.
Some residents in Wofford Heights who were evacuated during last week's 155 wildfire, say they're concerned for their safety should another fire start.
That's because one of their only escape routes, Sierra Way, has been closed for more than a year. Sierra Way was damaged by flooding more than a year ago.
First District County Supervisor Phillip Peters addressed the community's concerns with a construction update posted on Youtube.
Peters said repairs are slated to begin mid-July to repair Sierra Way and complete the route around Lake Isabella.
Repairs are expected to be completed September 23.
We told you yesterday morning that the oil leak that left numerous Bakersfield businesses without drinkable water for most of last week... had been fixed.
But things aren't quite back to normal for many of the businesses that were affected. Premier Surgery Center on Commerical Way was one of 42 commercial customers put under the do-not-use... do-not-drink advisory for the city's tap water one week ago today.
Though that advisory was lifted Sunday... following continued water flushing and two rounds of comprehensive water quality testing... the backup it caused here, is still being felt Cal Water... the company overseeing the cleanup... says Griffin Resources LLC is responsible for the water contamination.
City Attorney Ginny Gennaro says for businesses seeking reimbursments...the first step is to file a claim against the city.
Gennaro says the city is expecting 100% recovery from Griffin for any payments made.
Trial for two men accused in the deadly shooting of a California Department of Corrections counselor, is moving forward. Robert Pernell Roberts and Sebastian Parra are charged with attempted robbery and the murder of Benny Alcala Jr.
Alcala was killed while charging his electric vehicle in the parking lot of the Sotckdale Target store the night of August 24, 2022.
Initially only Roberts was charged.
Parra, the prosecution's key witness at Roberts' preliminary hearing, said he'd met Roberts that night and had nothing to do with the killing.
Trial was supposed to begin ealier this year.
However, a judge halted proceedings when a Bakersfield Californian journalist refused to turn over her notes from an interview with Parra.
The judge assigned the courtroom for the trial yesterday.
Both men face life sentences if they're convicted

2 people are hospitalized this morning following a brutal crash in south Bakersfield. This happened just after 10 p.m. last night on East Panama Lane and Sparks Street.
Two cars were involved and one reportedly caught on fire.
two people suffered moderate to major injuries.
No word on their condition as of this morning.
The cause of this crash is unknown.
an update on an oil spill that's contaminated water in parts of Bakersfield... that left many businesses closed for almost a week.
But those businesses now have the go-ahead to use water, according to the newest update from Cal Water yesterday. The investigation into the contamination is focused on a local oil producer.
Early Tuesday afternoon, oil was discovered in the City's drinking water system.
That prompted officials to urge people not to drink or use the water.
Cal Water says it appears the backflow of oil... responsible for the water contamination... occurred at Griffin Resources LLC... a local oil producer.
17 News has not been able to reach the owners of Griffin for comment, but this isn't the company's first incident with oil leaks.
According to the California Department of Conservation... Griffin Resources LLC has... for the past seven years.... failed to address cited violations related to proper oil well maintenance and facility upkeep... potentially endangering the public and environment.
And Griffin faces an ongoing 2022 lawsuit related to all 25 of its wells in the Fruitvale Oil Field.
When asked about accountability for Griffin... Cal Water says that will likely be handled by other entities.
According to Cal Water, the oil contamination did not travel beyond the affected areas.
We're in store for another round of triple digit temperatures in the coming days but residents are already feeling the heat...on their ac bill.
17's Justin White has more on how to beat the heat and save a few bucks in the process.
A structure in Oildale is in ruins this morning following a blaze. Here is video of the scene.
This fire reportedly broke out just before 4:30.
You can see a building charred.
The fire was put out.
There is no known cause of the fire... and it is not known if anyone was injured.
now to wildfires burning across Kern...
The Cody fire located North of Bakersfield is now 100% contained. At last report from CalFire, the fire had consumed 903 acres.
The Cody fire was burning in the area of Sherwood Avenue East of Hwy 65.
The fire started Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm, but crews made significant progress with air tankers and hand crews digging perimeter lines.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Lost Fire is now 90% contained according to Calfire.
The fire has consumed up to 3,600 acres located off Twisselman Road in Lost Hills.

The Creek fire at last report was 45% contained and had burned 50 acres, according to CalFire.
The fire started about 9:30 yesterday morning on Caliente Creek Road in Caliente.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A man is in the hospital this morning after being shot. It happened in a field about a mile east of the Bakersfield Speedway.
KCSO says deputies found the man with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to the hospital.
Authorities have not provided any information on a suspect.
We turn now to the latest on two wildfires in Kern County - one prompting an evacuation order in Wofford Heights. The so-called 155 fire was reported in the area of Wofford Heights Boulevard near Old State Road just before 5 p.m.
Nearby residents were ordered to evacuate as strong winds fanned the flames.
Some saying, this situation brought back fears of the devastating Erskine fire. Some good news - those evacuation orders have been lifted according to the Genasys map.
According to the Kern County Fire Department, at least 50 acres have burned, but forward spread has been stopped.
No word at this hour on containment.
County firefighters have also gained the upper hand ona brush fire in Lost Hills.
The lost fire started near the intersection of Lost Hills and Twisselman Roads around 3:40 p.m. yesterday.
Officials say the fire has burned at least 3600 acres.
That fire is 90% contained as of this morning, and forward progression has been stopped.
An investigation is underway this morning, after a man's body was pulled from the Kern River. Deputies assigned to the Sheriff's Kern Valley Substation were called out to an area just south of Riverside Park around noon yesterday.
There, they found a body on the shoreline that had been pulled from the water.
The man has not been identified.
The cause and manner of his death are under investigation.
new developments in the case of Scrivner versus Scrivner.
Amid sexual assault allegations against Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner... estranged wife Christina Scrivner has requested a domestic violence restraining order.
Yesterday, we took you live outside of that courtroom..
But that hearing has now been postponed until at least early December.

the ongoing investigation into Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner.
Scrivner is accused of sexually assaulting a child back in late April, but the second district supervisor's whereabouts have remained unknown since.
After nearly six weeks of silence surrounding this case, today *COULD* be his first public appearance since the accusations. 17's Aleeya Fitzgerald is live in front of the Downtown Justice Building with more.
This morning marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day....and we're highlighting some of the veterans who were on the beaches that day.
Here's Marielena Balouris with one veteran's message.
We are one step closer to the groundbreaking of Bakersfield's new Veteran's Affairs Clinic.
Hanford Congressman David Valadao helped pass a bill yesterday that's now headed to the Senate. If passed... the bill would require the V-A to move forward with construction no later than September 30, 2025.
A new clinic has been promised... yet never delivered since its approval by Congress in 2009.
The new clinic would be a $40 million medical facility in north Bakersfield... offering primary and specialty care.
The latest in the legal tug of war?
A lawsuit filed December 2023.
Progress for Bakersfield Veterans LLC... a subsidary of Cardinal Equities... and Friends of the Bakersfield Kit Fox and Environment... a nonprofit... are against it.
Since the start... the new VA Clinic has faced the same roadblock... Cardinal Equities... the owner of the land on which the current VA Clinic sits on Westwind.
Cardinal's owner Peter Cohen has been accused of delaying construction for profit... renting out that current clinic site.
17 News has been reaching out to Cohen but we have never heard back.
